TCU ABSN 2012

Published

Hello everyone! I have submitted my application for TCU's Accelerated BSN program. I am getting ready to take the HESI A2 next week and my file will be 100% complete. I have been checking allnurses.com frequently to see if there are any other TCU 2012 hopefuls, but haven't come across anyone yet! Are you out there?? If so, lets start talking!! :)

A little about me...I have been working as a medical sales representative for close to 10 years. I have worked in pharma, device, disposables, biotech, services, and specialty pharmacy. Throughout the years, my love for the medical industry has only increased until one day I decided to take the plunge and start my pre-requisites. Now with them completed, I am looking into TCU (first choice), El Centro (2nd choice, only have one additional pre-req to take) and UTA (still have 6, yes, 6 pre-requisites to take and doubtful I will be able to apply by for the Fall 2012 start class, perhaps the spring 2013). I live in Lantana (outside of Flower Mound) so I will be commuting each day to the school I get accepted to (fingers crossed).

So that's my story! What is yours?? :nurse:

I think that is a great essay choice! This generation of nurses is expected to have excellent leadership skills, courage (especially when advocating for your patient), and have the ability to overcome many obstacles :)

Well I finally got all documentation submitted today now like someone else said the long wait starts.

I wrote my essay about growing up on a dairy farm and how that shaped me to be successful in sales and management.

I feel like I missed something with the application process. All the emailing with no responses, and depending on the Universities I attended to send transcripts has given me an uneasy feeling

Hey Jene (JAMSALEStoRN) do you have any contact info? I would like to ask you a few questions if possible.

Shiner50 do you have any contact info? I would like to ask you some questions about the program if possible

Thanks

I can't give my contact info out online, but you are welcome to ask me any questions via this forum, or PM me :)

I also applied to TCU's accelerated program for May 2012 - I'm glad to find some others on here! :)

Just a heads up to anyone else who applied: I spoke to someone in admissions at TCU today and she told me that, because of the new application process implemented this year, they'll be sending out acceptance letters a lot earlier (last year they didn't go out until January or February). Anyways, she told me that the letters would go out within the next couple of weeks! Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet some of you next May! :)

Wow, that's great to hear! Waiting almost 3.5 months last year was torturous!!

Shiner - Are you in the program at TCU currently? How do you like it? Any pointers for someone who's simultaneously terrified and thrilled to start?? :)

Haha, I think terrified and thrilled described all of us 6 months ago...and some still now! Yes, I am currently in the ABT program; it's great. It's hard to believe that we only have one more full semester before our summer residency and then we are finished. My main pointer would be to do whatever you can to keep your stress level in check. There are definitely stressful moments in this program, and some people let it get too overwhelming. You just have to keep in mind that it will all be over before you know it! Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go ahead and start familiarizing yourself with NCLEX style questions; most NCLEX questions have more than one right answer, or all of the answers are correct, but you have to choose the BEST answer. You will have NCLEX style exams right from the get go and that really threw a lot of us off for a bit. Go ahead and buy a study guide and look it over in your spare time.

Shiner - I actually asked for the latest NCLEX review guide for Christmas, haha. How lame is that? :)

Thanks for the tips - I hear it's a pretty stressful program, but "doable" as long as you're willing to bust your butt for it. I'm pretty nervous, but I think going in with the attitude that it's going to be stressful and difficult, and just accepting that from the get-go...I think will help. More than anything, I'm just so excited to start. I feel fairly confident that I will be accepted - I've talked fairly extensively with Frances, and she has acted like I shouldn't have any trouble; also, my grades are good and I've worked really hard to keep my GPA up through all the prereqs... I really hope I get in, I can't imagine how stressed you all must have been having to wait so long for your letters! Just knowing I have another week or two to wait is killing me! Haha. Anyway, good luck to you in your semester and throughout your residency next summer! Thanks so much again for the advice. :)

The program is very doable. Don't stress too much about it; it is all worth it, especially when you get to the end of a semester, haha! Just make it a point to enjoy any free time you have before May gets here!

Thanks, Shiner.

Heads up to anyone else who applied: I got my acceptance letter to TCU today, and enclosed was a form that said "Acceptance to TCU does not guarantee acceptance to the Harris College of Nursing," which made sense. However, since the woman I spoke to in admissions a few weeks ago said both letters would go out at the same time this year (yes, I quizzed her on it repeatedly at the time because I knew past classes didn't get their letters until late Jan. or Feb.), I decided to call admissions and ask about it again today. Anyways, apparently that woman was very much mistaken, and letters for the nursing program will still go out in February. Sorry for any hopes I may have falsely gotten up, I was going off of what someone in admissions had incorrectly told me. Not excited about another few months of waiting... :(

Good morning everyone,

I will be taking my Hesi A2 on January 27 for TCUs nursing program and would like to know if any of you have any Tips in regards to what I should study and what books to use. I currently have the McGraw-Hill's Nursing School Entrance Exam book and the HESI Evolve Reach Admission Assessment Exam Review book but the Evolve book seems so vague makes me feel like there should be more to it. Also I would like to have some idea in what is tested under the Grammar section.

Hey all! I took the test with some of you in October on the 14th. I made a 92 somehow. I only made an 86 on the A&P section, but I had not had I or II of A&P at that point. I am getting so excited about the upcoming month. We should know if we got into the program in the next few weeks! Anyways, I already met some of you at the test and hope to meet you again in MAY!
