TCC Prereqs/core classes

Published

I haven't been to school since graduating HS in '83. Now I'm interested in going into Nursing, now that my youngest will be starting school in the fall. I was wondering if there is any particular order to take the prereqs, strategically speaking. I need to take the Accuplacer next week. I dread even that because my math knowledge is poo poo. My 15 yo son will have to tutor me! LOL

How hard is it going back to school after so many years? How many classes can I realistically handle in one semester? Shaking in my boots already.

Any suggestions for a newb?

Thanks y'all.

Online classes are nothing like being in the classroom. There is usually an assignment due every week or so. You can do the work in your PJs. And, you don't listen to a lecture -- you read it.

I've never taken a TV class.

Mom2 - Ah! Good to know. If I bomb A&P II this summer, maybe I will try for the online in the fall ;)

Jaxia, I took A&P 2 at Mountain View (DCCCD) during Summer 2. The lecture was on video tape & I only went in for a couple of hours M-R for lab, for 5 weeks.

....Just a thought.....

Good luck to you all!

Mom2 - Ah. I always get up at 6a on registration day because I like to take Internet classes :) I remember seeing A&P I online when I registered this Spring, but I didn't see A&P II when I registered for Summer. Maybe it is only offered during the long sessions?

Did you have to go on campus for your lab? I've heard different things from different people.

I love mr foote he was great . I was one of the first to take his online classes several years ago.... he is wonderful

Yep, they are taught by Mr. Foote and he only teaches them over the long semester.

Nope, both lecture and lab are complete online except for a few exams you have to do in the testing center. You also will have a two hour orientation where you will disect a pig to take home so be prepared! :)

Hmm...Now I'm really starting to wonder if I should take Micro during Summer II and A&P II during the fall with Foote...!

You'll really like Mr. Foote.

Why don't you take Micro over summer 1 with me!! :)

I had Mr. Foote last Fall and I loved the class, BUT the testing center lost my second scan-tron (the test was 150 questions) so I missed like 60 something questions and it dropped my grade to a B :angryfire. The sad part was Mr. Foote didn't do anything to help me get it figured out!!!! He actually thought that I just didn't answer the last 50 questions.... Now why would someone do that?!?! I didn't have time to fight it b/c I wanted to make the deadline for nursing school. Thank the Lord that it didn't keep me from getting in to nursing school in the spring!

Wait, something just hit me. I have to take a DEAD pig HOME with me?

That will not smell pretty!

I was wondering about the dead pig thing myself. Where do you keep something like that?

He assured us that we would need them to refer back to during the semester. Miraculously enough I never felt the need to get mine out, though I did keep it the entire semester just in case. I put mine out in the garage. I did give my husband plenty of advance warning before he went out to randomly look for one of his tools. It was a fetal pig, but even still it was not the prettiest thing to look at! :chuckle

So if you take it online do you have lab practicals?

You just basically have lab exams just like the lecture exams. You can do all your simulations online through a disk you get with your lab book.
