Also did duel English so that is out of the way too ! :yeah:Thank you for any and all help !:loveya: ( Feel free to Pm me if you need to thanks again ! )
good lord, are you one of those helicopter parents? why are you doing the research for her? let her do the work. she is not going to make it through school if she does not develop any skills for self-sufficency. i am amazed at the level of interference parents they have in their children's world. i would never have expected my parents to do the research for me in college.i noticed in your posting, you have done all the footwork. nice, are you going to take the exams for her? you are setting her up to fail...
shameful... does she even know how to use a computer? honestly, how can you expect her to get through nursing school if she can not even do research for herself. are you going to complain to the professor's if she does badly in her classes?
Being involved and helping your children to transition into college is NOT being a helicopter parent. It is called having love and compassion. It is making life a little easier and ensuring success for your children. I wish my parents would have been more interested in my college education. It is very difficult for some students to transition from high school to college. They have not had a lot of life experience and are sometimes unsure of themselves. They don't know anything about how to apply for colleges, where to go for financial aid or how to fill out the documents, how to look for good professors, or anything else related to college. Many of them think that it is going to be similar to high school. I know that when I first went to college for my B.A, I was terrified. I was so nervous that I felt physically sick. I think it is wonderful that she is helping her daughter. Perhaps you think it would be best for her to throw her daughter into a "sink or swim" situation, but maybe that would be overwhelming for her daughter and turn her off of college completely. Don't judge everyone by your own standards.
How would you like to walk through the doors of the nursing department and have another professor come up to your instructor and say, "Good Lord, are you one of those helicopter instructors? Why are you lecturing him? Let him read the book. He is not going to get through nursing school if he doesn't develop any independent thinking skills and self-sufficiency." Everybody doesn't believe in just throwing their children and other people to the wolves. Life is always better and easier when you are willing to help others and are able to sometimes receive help. Why should everything have to be a struggle? People face enough of those already.
Just my oppinion but I think having parental emotional support for school is great! Look at how many people drop out of college there first year. Add the stress of nursing school ontop of the stress a new college student already has makes it even harder. Having a person's family involved in their education makes it so much easier to make it.
livinlife1257 I wish your daughter the best of luck in school.

For one, not that is any of your business she is right beside me when we research her classes, instructors and colleges .She has asked for my help and advice which makes me feel good . You see I can be a parent and a friend.... Thank goodness she is sleeping now so that she can not read this ( as of now ) to see just how ugly and petty some nurses can be . She was a straight A high school student that already has 15 colleges hours by her choice not mine . Do not for a second think you know my child .....YOU DONT nor do you know me or how I parent ....Which again is none of your business. She worked the last year of high school at the hospital making 15.00 an hour along with all the activies of a NORMAL teenager. And trust me if she read this I have no doubt she could put you in your place and make you question you own parenting abilities. She will make a wonderful nurse she is a great women and can for sure handle her own problems but hey life is better with someone by your side saying I love you. As for as grades she will do great and can handle any issue with any prof ,boss or busybody on this site
Have a good day
Heloisea3 and Sandy dfw thanks for the kind words and not assuming that I was doing all the work while my daughter was out playing lol. We do use the same computer and you can only have one account on this site . As I said she is with me when we are looking into things and she did her fasa with me beside her but yes she did it and is a wonderful young lady and will do great with her schooling . She was accepted into UT, Tech,TWU, and Texas state but decided she wanted to stay home for at least another year . As for myself I am thankful I have raised a child that knows what is best for her,can stand on her on two feet and loves me, her mom and her friend . Afterall is that not what we want as parents ? OK enough of parenting rants last time I checked this was a nursing site not a parenting site so I will no longer talk about my parenting skills which I assure you are great. A big THANKS to you two for having a mothers and a students back :tku:
Heloisea3~Hi! Wow, Pedi/OB, yes I remember that semester very well, who are your instructors? And are you starting with Pedi or OB first? I started with Pedi first, but I don't think my clinical instructor teaches there anymore. Pedi/OB is a very fast paced semester, and you have to keep up with the lectures. If you can get the Lipincott's Pediatrics Manuel it will be very useful. If you can't get one, I have one you can have.
The pharmacology class was very informational and it is not just nursing centered, but pharmacology in general, still it was a class I would definately recommend. I would definately NOT recommend you take pharmacology during the Pedi/OB semester. The work is not much at all in Pharmacology, i.e, you don't have any papers to write, but the notes are extensive and the class time I took, we met once a week, and every week, the first part of the class we would have a test over the lecture from the previous week. The second half would be the lecture. Dee Ann Carver, is a very understanding and respectable instructor, if you decide to take the class either this semester or next, I would take it with her.
I hope this helps, let me know if you want my lipincotts pedi manual, and maybe we can meet up somewhere. I know when I was at school, my clinical group loved meeting up at Taco Casa...:)
Take care!
How exciting for your daughter to begin this nursing school journey. I started about 6 years ago and am still plugging away with one more year to go! I took all of my sciences at NE campus and will do my best to remember who I had! Matthai is awesome for Microbiology, if Williamson still teaches Chemistry - avoid her at all costs! I did however, have another gentleman for lab and he was great. I thought his last name started with a B, but I looked around on the TcC page and couldn't find him. Mrs. Lanier was also great for chemistry. I took AP1 and AP2 online (not sure if they still offer that???) both with the same professor. I would recognize the name if I heard it, but again can't seem to remember it. He was an older man, but I didn't see a familiar name on the TCC page. The online class was very convenient, though I do think I probably would have actually learned more on campus. If you have any other questions, just ask away!!
They still offer then online but it is hard to get into the classes. I tried to get the online class for this fall but when I tried to register, approx 45 mins after registration started, all the online classes were filled. I will be faster for the spring semester.
That is VERY true! I always had to register at 6am on the dot, the day of registration. Do you know who teaches it? I can't for the life of me remember that professors name! :)
The instructor for the online course is Osborne Foote.Registration started at midnight Sunday.
I am taking the A & P 1 with K. Hoffman as the instructor in the fall.
Foote! That's the one! I think his first name might be Durwood though?? This is a pretty easy class. Be prepared that when you go to "orientation" you will be disecting a fetal pig - was NOT prepared for that one! Can't remember if it was for 1 or 2....I think it was 2 because I was pregnant at the time. JOY! LOL

On second thought - it's not actually as easy class, it has plenty of tough material. However, his testing style is very predictable.
