TCC to NSU or ODU

Published

Ok, so Im still trying to find out what I am going to do. I am a MA graduate from MCI and none of my credits will transfer to another school(my own fault). I so desperately want to be an RN. I do not wish to go to school for LPN, only to go back for RN. I want to cut out the middle man and just do it now. I want to go to a school. The problem is that I dont want to go to school for 3 or more years. Thats my dillema. So I was thinking I should just forget about the fast route, and take my time doing pre'reqs and hope I get into the program at a CC or university. If I take pre'reqs at TCC, and transfer to NSU or ODU, how long will that whole process take. I understand that the sciences will be the long part of the pre'reqs. Has anyone been through this process or going through the process right now. Any info would be so helpful. What about the entrance exam for NSU or ODU after your pre'reqs are done? If I take my pre'reqs at TCC, how long will I have to wait to appy for the nursing program else where...or there for that matter.

Hello, I am also a graduate from MCI (LPN program) and none of my credits transferred. I started out at TCC and loved the school, NSU also has a great Nursing Program. I know moving out of state put me back a little (1 semester basically) but it still took me 3 yrs to finish and I was a LPN (which i took the LPN to RN track) so needless to say it will take you 3 yrs but to me its worth it. Or you could go back to MCI and pay the big bucks for fast track. I dont know what else to tell you. Sorry, if this doesnt help. :(

No, it helps. Im going to be doing the same thing. My cousin is currently a student at MCI(LPN) and she said that someone there told her that she could go to NSU for her RN in 9 months after she finishes at MCI. I told her that it was just to good to be true. Have you heard anything about this ridiculous lie. I just cant believe that MCI credits will transfer ANYWHERE. pLEASE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS FOR ME. I want a bachelors in nursing so I will be going to school for a very long time. I understand that I have to first become a licensed nurse, before I can enter into a bachelors program. Does that sound right, or am I misunderstanding? I may or maynot use my husbands GI Bill, so I may or may not go back to MCI. If I did that, I would still have to go back to them for my bachelors. AAAAAHHHHH!!!Giving my money to MCI three times is pretty stupid. Anyway, thanks for your help.:nurse::heartbeat:mad:

Hey I am an MCI RN student. Read some of the posts in the VA Program Discussions, I talk about this a lot. For the RN program it is regionally accredited but only in Candidacy for the NLN, that is why it is hard to transfer our credits for the RN program.

I can tell you I will be starting the UoP MSN bridge program since I have a prior BS in another field. MCI offers a BSN at both the VA Beach and NN campus. You have to be a nurse for one year before you can start that BSN program and my understanding is this happens in a lot of places because they want you to apply your experience to the classes.

The reason, according to my understanding, that MA credits do not transfer to the RN program is because they are not as in depth as RN classes. One example of this, which I posted before, is when over half of our class failed out of the RN program during A&P 1 half of them entered immediately into the LPN program. When we see them around campus they tell us that LPN A&P is half the work of the RN A&P and that it is a breeze for them.

I use the Post 9/11 GI Bill and since MCI is Yellow Ribbon I do not pay a dime. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Also keep in mind that she is a civilian and MAY use her husbands GI BILL. Finances are always a concern for me. And its been awhile since Ive been a MCI student, and they were also accredited when I was there, but my credits did not transfer. My advice is to talk to the colleges admission advisors (NSU and TCC) and ask what is there experience with former MCI students. When I was a MCI student I remember them telling me my pre-reqs would transfer (Wasnt True). My sister is going back for her RN, and chose NSU over MCI (she is also a former MCI student) for this particular reason (and funds). If you can use your spouses GI BILL, I say do MCI. Otherwise, please do speak to the advisors at the other colleges. MUCH LUCK TO YOU!!!

Yes it is super important to make financially sound decisions! Some of my classmates are going to be so far in the hole after this program that I doubt they will ever see light! Luckily there are lots of scholarships in this area, according to them I do not know as I have not needed to apply. Good luck!

I want to thank everyone for your input and answers to all of my questions, but I have decided to take the long road. I'll be going to TCC or TCC and NSU. The way I see it, shorter isnt always better, especially if its at MCI. Although I though MCI was a good school, and I understand why the credits wont transfer(within the school), I'd rather not use the GI Bill right noiw. Maybe I'll use it when I go for my bachelors. Havent made up my mind about that part yet. Does anyone know If we could use the GI Bill more than once? I have two middle schoolers that may need to use it. Im not real sure how that works. The last time I looked into it, they said we only had 36 months.
