TCC Anyone?

U.S.A. Oklahoma

hey i was just curious if anyone out there is planning on attending tulsa community college nursing program this spring. would be nice to talk to you about how your doing on the prerequisites and such. let me know! oh, my name is ourn because i plan to get my bachelors from there through the rn-bsn track, sounds like a good deal, anybody know about it?

hey Prissy pixie I am also from bartlesville and I was going to enroll in tcc for my associates and I had the worst time w/ that school! Those ladies are soooo rude! I went up there to see if it was any better and it wasn't! I didn't get anything done going there. They didn't even want to help me! They told me to do everything online. So I was thinking about going to tricounty tech to get my lpn and then take the bridge lpn to rn, but you still have to have your pre-req so it would be the same amount of time. So now I am going to start tcc metro with my pre-req and I think just get my associates and then transfer to ou-tulsa for my bsn. I talked to the lady at ou-tulsa (She is extremely nice!!) She said if I already have my associates it would take 9 months to get my bsn. I would have to come in one saturday a month the rest would be online. That sounds good to me!

Hello all! I know this thread is old but thought I would reply anyway. I am in Level II nursing at TCC. So, any questions I would be glad to help!

How is it going??? I've heard lots of warnings from our instructors about level 2! They say things like, "if you think you have it bad now, just wait until next semester!" (Thanks for the encouragement... :uhoh21: )

I am having fun in level 1, I guess... The first test was sooo hard half the class failed as well as the third test... but we're all getting along alright. I think so far about 7 people have dropped though.

I heard only ONE person got an 'A' in last semesters class. Is that right?

LOTS of work to do over the break!!

Let me know how you like level 2.

Hi! :)

ETA: I see this thread is old but I'll answer some of these questions anyhow.

Just wanted to reply that I am starting my pre-reqs this fall at the Metro campus. I am really excited to get started. I'll be taking:

Intro to Psych -

Beginning Algebra -

Freshman Comp I -

Principles of Chem -

Anything you can tell me about these classes or Instructors?

ETA: I see that your post had the instructors edited out. If you want to PM me, that was fine. However, I saw that this thread was very old and that you probably know for yourself about the instructors by now. :)

Hi prissy pixie... I got a AS in Psychology at TCC and I've taken all of these classes except Chem. Do you know who the instructors are?

So far, the Metro campus has left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm 32 years and have never taken a college course. So, I wasn't exactly sure how things worked but I have come to realize that my advisor screwed me by not signing me up for Biology for Majors in my first semester. Now I'm going to get started late on my Biology classes and it may cost me an extra semester.

Unfortunately, as you know all the nursing classes are at Metro. I don't like Metro either. If you are coming from Bartlesville, you may consider taking as many classes as you can at TCC North Campus. It's easy to get to by going down I-75 and turning onto 10 and going to Harvard. There's no pay parking and although the neighborhood may not be the greatest, somehow I just liked it better.

I found out too that the admissions instructors didn't know what was going on when it came to the nursing program. I almost had a simular problem like yours. I thoroughly read the catalog and everything I could on the nursing program. If you do the same, you'll end up knowing more than those who work at the admissions office.

I also have found the lady, answering the phones, in the Nursing Department extremely rude. It took two weeks to receive the program info packet which I received after I had to sign up for classes. So I didn't know which classes I needed when. She has cut me off not allowing me to ask the questions I needed to ask. Barked at me. She has even hung up on me mid sentence! :angryfire

Would it help knowing that you aren't the only one with this problem? Geez Louise... a people person she is not. I went in to see her in person and she was pretty snappy then. Just so you know, you aren't alone. :)

I'm not letting this deter me, however. I'm just worried about getting to my classes and getting good grades.

That's the ticket!! :) Don't let this person foul you up...

When you get the chance, read the admission process in the catalog, and from the nursing office. I don't know if they have a wait, but you have a lot of hoops to jump through to get into the program.

Did you take the PCT course through TCC? I'm due to take it next semester.

Here's a tip: Take it through Dream Maker's School for Health Care Aides. You'll get in right away and it's only 10 days. The instructors really care about you, classes are small (no more than 10/class), and Betty (the lead instructor) will teach it till you know it. She was an RN at a Tulsa hospital for many years. My mom worked with her, and she's a born teacher. When the floor had students, they always sent them to Betty. She's patient, kind, etc. It's TOUGH, but you will know your stuff. Betty knows what the schools are looking for - she's awesome.

Where do the students go for clinicals for this course?

St. John Medical Center is the only one I know of for sure. I know that there's a LTC they use, too.

I hope that I've been of some help. No, I haven't been through the program yet, but I do know TCC. If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to ask here or PM me.

Best of luck to you!!! :)

I forgot to mention, TCC isn't the only game for nursing in town. There is Langston University affiliated with OSU. You can get your pre-reqs there and you don't have the parking problems that Metro has. There was only one lady who was unhelpful, in fact she lied to me about something... I know some of the instructors (one might still be on maternity leave) and they are pretty nice.

2 caveats about Langston:

1. This may not be a caveat for some, but it is a BSN program. This may not be for you if you want your ADN.

2. The last time I checked, Langston's NCLEX scores were in the high 70's while TCC's where in the mid-upper 90's.

I hope this helps, however, I just saw that this thread was older.

I don't think you can actually do any of your prereqs at Langston-Tulsa or OSU-Tulsa. They send you to TCC for them. Both Tulsa campuses are strictly for junior and senior level classes.

Getting through the pre-reqs is a lot easier if you get the right instructor.

Check out http://www.ratemyprofessors.com and pick the instructors from what other people have said about them. I did that and I ended up with a 3.7 gpa going into nursing...

Gentle reminder for follow up members posting: no full names of instructors on the board, please. Thank you.

OH, I didn't know.. I'm sorry.

Its okay OURN83. you helped me find some instructors!! Thanks!
