Tattoo question

Hi, my arms are heavily tattooed on the lateral side down to the mid-forearms... I was wondering if it's acceptable for large tattoos, or any tattoos for that matter, to be visible in a hospital setting, or if it's required to cover them?

Thanks!

It is required that they be covered.

I would expect to be required to cover them. However, I met an RN the other day who has worked as a clinical instructor at my school. She has several visible tattoos, including on her neck.

Depends on where you work:)

It totally depends on where you work. There's nurses on my unit with tattoos that show. I think it might be considered discrimination if it caused big problems. Within reason of course - eg. my boyfriend has a sleeve with bunch of skulls and evil clowns and junk on one of his arms, which I suspect might give him a bit of grief one hot days after he fulfills his dream of being an infant resuscitation paramedic.

Depends on where you work. My friend has tattoos on both arms, looks great, and no problems with them with mgmt.

For school clinicals, I would bet my life (well, not mine, but my ex-hubby's) that they need to be covered. In a job situation, I think it depends.

In the program that I am in, all tats must be covered and piercings removed (except for one set of studs in ears only).

I think it depends on the facility, but I would be prepared to wear long sleeves. I have tattoos too, but they are high up on my deltoid, shoulder and ankle, so I guess I wouldn't be able to wear skirts in some facilities. Check with personnel about their policy and procedure.

my school requires for tattoos to be covered. also, no beards, no extravagent hairstyles, no long hair down for clinicals, no body jewelry but one pair 5mm max ball/post earrings. mustaches ok for the gentlemen.

you might try the new concealors that cover very well or just wear a long sleeve tee under your scrub top for clinicals.

your body art shouldn't be much of an issue once you've graduated.

good luck!

:)
