I want to say thank you to all who are taking the time to read this thread and help me out. I will be graduating from nursing school in September, we live in Indiana and are wanting to move to Tampa area next June. My question to all tampa nurses how is the job market for new grade nurses and also what is the pay rate in tampa Florida for new nurses? Also if anyone can recommend some areas that are nice for raising children as I have kids and a husband. I would appreciate any and all advice from everyone! Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and helping me out!
I would appreciate any information from tampa nurses please, since I will be moving my family down its very important to hear any information from new grade nurses or new nurses with one year experience:) thank you again for taking the time to read!

I don't know anything about the Tampa area geographically, but in Florida new grads tend to start out at the $20 area for acute inpatient positions.
Thank you do much for your response! I appreciate your honesty because I have read some trends stating new grads are getting close to 25-30 hr, where do you recommend for a family to move to from indiana in Florida if there was a choice of Orlando vs tampa area?
They are both high crime, high traffic. You couldn't pay me to live in either one lol.
I've not heard of any new grads starting near that in this state.
You do have a lot of specialty hospitals there, peds, trauma, burn, shiners, Moffitt, just to name a few from the top of my head :)
Those are the only places we vacationed we really don't know of other cities, what other cities do you recommend?
What did you like about those places? What specialty are you wanting to go into?
I loved Orlando for disney for the kids, I am not crazy about tampa my husband loves the ocean. I want to do OB, eventually I would further my education and become a OB NP

I am a RN in So. Florida and make $26/hour (hired and trained as a new grad last year). I love everything Florida has to offer - great weather, beautiful beaches and a laid-back life style which may take same time to get used to if you are from a big city (I am originally from NYC).
I recently relocated from an area in Central Florida on the East Coast known as "The Space Coast". It is a wonderful place to raise a family. Check out this fairly new town - Viera, FL. Quite a few of it's residents work in the Aerospace Industry (NASA, Harris, Norththrop Grumman and Rockwell Collins all call the area home) and a new hospital as well as shopping malls, restaurants and schools have been recently built to accommodate the fast growing population. I left after graduating with my BSN and relocated to So. Florida to procure work in a large city. I love the casual life-style and am thrilled to call Florida "home".
Best of luck to you and I hope to welcome you to the sunshine state!

There was someone who posted a few days ago who had a job at Florida Hospital in Tampa. I want to say he said he was making $26 with differential, $22 base. But don't quote me.

I love Viera/Melbourne area. I actually wanna move back that way after I graduate!
We were thinking of tampa area, well my husband was I am more into Orlando. So pretty much the start rate down in Florida is about $22 hr for a new grade? What do they consider a new grad is it with some experience let's say 6 months or less? I graduate in September and I am hoping and praying to find a job soon after, but what I am hearing around in indiana is some nurses can't find a job in a hospital they end up working in jails, home health, etc.
