Hello. Im applying for the ADN RN program at tallahassee community college for Fall 2011. I was wondering if anyone took the entrance exam already? If so, what scores you got.. Im trying to get an idea of where I stand. thanks & good luck!
I can't believe it's only been 3 weeks...haha only 3-5 left to go!
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up about the uniforms and supplies. I work at Hellen's Uniform Shop and we, along with G. Willie's, fit TCC for their Nursing Program. As we all know, nursing school can be expensive, so here's how the scrub end of the deal works:
There are two different style tops for women, both of which I believe are $16.00 each for sizes XXS-XL and $18.00 each for sizes 2X-5X. One is just a v-neck 2-pocket top (style #4700) and it's definitely the more popular of the two. The other also has two pockets but is a snap front top (style #4770). You will receive a 10% discount because you're a student, but you also need the TCC Nursing monogram, which is $5.00 per top. So depending on your size, tops will run $19.85-$21.65 plus tax.
For pants, there are four different styles for women. One is a half drawstring/half elastic flare leg pant (style #4101) and is definitely the most popular of the choices. It will run you $16.50 for sizes XXS-XL and $18.50 for sizes 2X-5X. The second most popular choice is the cargo pant (style #4020), which is $18.50 for sizes XXS-XL and $20.50 for sizes 2X-5X. The next two style pants are very similar, as they are both have an all elastic waistband. The only difference is that one style has pockets on the leg (style #4200) and the other does not (style #4001). The prices for these are $16.50 for sizes XS-XL and $18.50 for 2X-5X. You'll also receive the 10% discount for each pair of pants you purchase. All of the pants are also available in Petites and Talls (add an extra $2.00).
Depending on your size and height, women's scrubs will be about $36-$43 per set.
They recommend that you purchase 2 sets of scrubs, plus a jacket (style #4350). Jackets will also need to be monogrammed and will also get the discount. If you get cold during clinicals or in class, this is the only jacket you're permitted to wear. They are $20.50 for sizes XS-XL and $22.50 for sizes 2X-5X.
For men, there are either unisex sets or men sets. The unisex has one pocket on the chest (style #4777) and will run you $13.00 for sizes XXS-XL and $15.00 for sizes 2X-5X. The unisex pants are all drawstring (style #4100), and not to deter you away from purchasing them, but many complain that it's difficult for these to stay up all day, because there is no elastic. Prices for the pants are the same as the tops. Depending on your size, a set of the unisex scrubs will run you $30-$35 (including tax, monogram and discount). For the men's style, the pants (stye #4000) are all elastic with a zip fly and about $20.00 for sizes XS-XL and $22.00 for sizes 2X-5X. Men's tops (style #4876) have three pockets and will be about $18.00 for XS-XL and $20.00 for sizes 2X-5X. There is also a men's jacket (style #4450). I'm not 100% sure about the men's prices, however, so please don't hold us to it!
The color everyone will be wearing is Caribbean Blue, which is similar to a dark teal.
You will also need to purchase a watch and a pair of all white shoes. It's easier for the student if the watch has military time. We have plenty of watches and shoes to choose from in the store, and as long as they aren't already on sale, you'll receive the 10% discount.
From what we've been told, the school provides stethoscopes, BP cuffs, bandage scissors, etc., so you don't need to purchase them. You are absolutely able to though, and we have wide variety in the store for you to chose from as well.
Cherokee is the brand for all of the scrubs you'll be purchasing. You can check them out at Cherokee's website (http://www.cherokeeuniforms.com, under the Workwear tab).
We recommend that you come in and try on your uniforms as soon as you are able to. We order the uniforms from Cherokee and since they ship out from Dallas and need to be monogrammed, it'll take around 7-10 business days. It's best to do this sooner rather than later.
**Also, prices are subject to change, as the price of cotton is always rising. I just typed this up for everyone to get an idea of what the scrubs will cost. These are in no way guaranteed prices.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I might be missing something, but I'm pretty sure that this sums it up! Thanks ladies :)
Also, on a side note, I was able to retake the HESI and made a 96.41! So I'm looking at a 149.41/160! I'm sincerely hoping that that is enough!

I took my HESI on the application deadline (haha I probably should have taken it earlier) I got cumulative 91%, with getting a low score on the vocab (82). I have a 3.4 GPA from all the prerequisite courses. Total, I'm at 144/160. Now comes the waiting! Good luck to you all!
