  1. Hey there, has anyone done their CasteBranch requirements? I'm not sure how to get the TB blood test done.
  2. I also got an email today about acceptance. I was prepared to wait over a month from now to hear back so it’s so nice to know! Good luck everyone and stay safe out there with coronavirus!
  3. I'm applying as well. Does anyone have any insight onto how to format the goal statement?
  4. Got a call saying I was selected for ER but that they didn't know a COT date or base assignment yet. Has anyone else had this? This is also a new recruiter to me, he replaced my old one recently. My last recruiter said there was no ER bonus but this one said there is a bonus if you do 4 years.
  5. I got a call from my recruiter a week or two ago saying the New Nurse Transition boards were taking longer than expected and that was holding up them starting on our boards. Has anyone heard when we should hear something back by?
  6. 1. I've heard that usually the assignments are stateside but on my dreamsheet I listed that I didn't prefer stateside over overseas so we'll see what happens. A friend of mine who got in is going to Ohio (Air Force). 2. A daily week for most nurses is still more than likely going to be 12 hour shifts, 3 days (or nights) a week. When I had my Col nurse interview she said the ER and most nurses do 12s, but if you are in certain specialties, it may be a Monday through Friday job. 3. Not sure. 4. I have a friends doing Army and Air Force reserves nursing and I have a friend who just got into the Air Force active duty. Can't say one's better than the other from their experiences so far. I was between Air Force and the Navy. I thought about the Navy since I've had family/friends in the Marines and Navy is the medical for Marines. I asked some Navy medics that were training at my hospital which branch I should apply for and one of them said, "Do you really want to be stuck on a ship with a bunch of seamen?" Haha. Anyways I chose Air Force since I liked their bases, can assume I won't be on a ship, and have heard the lifestyle is better and they treat you better. 5. The Air Force starts new grads out on med surg, I believe, before they can specialize. I'd say ER/ICU/OR are the most in demand. Right now the AF isn't giving bonuses to ER but they are for OR is what I was told.
  7. Mine said nothing about going by October... jealous! Originally we were saying January, but my family member is getting married in February so I asked if I could start in March... sigh! Wish I could go in October!
  8. I'm in New Orleans and my healthcare recruiter is out of Baton Rouge, LA. I'm all submitted as a fully qualified ER nurse, tons of paperwork, went to MEPS, had my colonel nurse interview, made my dream sheet. I was told there were no extra bonuses for ER at this time, he did say there was a bonus for OR. I don't know how many of each specialty they need but if you ask your recruiter they should be able to tell you. I know they were looking for 15 ER nurses for FY2018. Hope you get in touch with them and good luck! Also there are more boards for the year so don't worry too much! The process is so long.
  9. Does anyone know if you find out where you'd be sent before signing?
  10. My recruiter made the available date as the date I would go to CoT next year. And preference is a drop down menu that gives you the option to say you prefer CONUS or OCONUS. CONUS = The 48 CONtiguous States and the District of Columbia OCONUS = Outside Continental United States. Overseas = Any country or place beyond the CONUS. Alaska, Hawaii and the U.S. territories are considered overseas. Personally I put that I didn't prefer CONUS or OCONUS since I'd love to travel but if you feel strongly towards one then put that.
  11. Paigechi, it's funny since my recruiter was saying how there were no bonuses for ER nurses to sign up, but that their were bonuses for OR since they needed them more. I was told there are only 15 spots for ER nurses for FY2018 which goes over the entire 4 selection boards that they hold. I'd say if you really want to do OR then switch and join later, but at the same time once you get in and work for a year or 2 you could request to train in another specialty. That's what the colonel nurse told me during my interview at least because I was mentioning how I always was interested in ICU as well. She said I could do civilian ICU and come into the Air Force as that, otherwise to work as an ED nurse and request to cross train, and that it all depended on where you were at and what the AF needed.
  12. I heard back about my score (1 to 10 scale) from my Col nurse interview from my recruiter but will still be in the dark until the middle of September is what I was told. I've never made a dream sheet though, have you?
  13. Did your recruiter give you a breakdown of the interview questions? Mine followed that and then asked additional questions. She asked what the air force mission was, the core values, how I felt about guns, how I thought the Nurse Corps fits in with the big Air Force and so on. My GPA for my BSN was 3.8 but my cumulative is only 3.2 I want to say. She said that she saw a big improvement in my grades in the more recent classes I had taken and didn't count that against me.
  14. I'm all submitted for the first boards of the FY 2018. Can't remember if it's July or August but I was told I won't hear back until the middle of September. I'm applying as a fully qualified ER nurse "J". I've had MEPS, have all my papers in, and have done my Col Nurse interviews! Now to wait anxiously for 3.5 months! Was told there are only 15 spots for ER nurses! Hoping for the best and good luck yo everyone! It's a very exciting ride!
  15. I'm all submitted for this board as well for ER!
