Tallahassee Community College Fall 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone!! I haven't found a thread for this Fall's group of nursing applicants. So far, I've been denied to 5 universities and have applied to 5 more programs around the state, including TCC. Although I didn't want to settle for an ASN, TCC's nursing programs is one of the best in the state, and I'm really hoping I make the cut.

Some stats- I have a 3.4 pre-req GPA, finished all the courses and scored a total 94% on HESI. (Reading:94, Grammar:96, Math:100, Vocab:84) So I've calculated that I have 146/160 points for admission.

From the other forums, it seems like I've got a decent shot here for once.. this journey has been a little discouraging so far but I'm hanging in there.

I'd love to hear from some of you potential class-mates, and your stats or other info you may have heard about this program.

Best of luck everyone!!! We've all worked extremely hard to get to this point, and still have a lot of work before we reach the end!

anyone know where to get a flu shot?

I called Mrs. Douglas and she said its not required until late August/September, because thats when flu season begins.

all i was told is that they are "seasonal" with no further direction. Thanks!!

Just a couple things from a current 4th semester student if you guys want to know.

First many of your classes will remain TBA for the duration, ie, you will not know your schedule until the first day of class. Especially with labs and clinicals. It will be this way every semester and if you complain they will tell you tough luck. Expect to start clinicals fairly early (sometime week 2-4 probably), although there were some changes this year with fundamentals because the ordinary teacher is on maternity leave. You will have 4-8 hour clinical days in the first 8 weeks (unless they accepted the exchange for Simulator hours, we haven't been told whether this went through yet.) You will have classes two days a week for 3 hours and an 8 hour lab almost every week- probably Wednesdays, it will be broken up with a 1 hr lunch, you will have mornings-afternoons or afternoons-evenings and don't expect to be able to pick, they will assign groups. Never, will you be able to pick...just get used to that idea. Even if it seems like you are picking in registration, don't bet on it.

Do not EVER slack in any way on tests/ results or immunizations. They are not rational about this. We had someone kicked out of our class because she was 1 day late on her PDD (TB test). If it says you have to have your flu shot before orientation, do it, no matter what anyone says, unless you can get it in writing (email).

Well its kind of hard to get a flu shot when it isn't flu season, and no place in Tallahassee is offering them. I'm sure the problem will be addressed on orientation day, as vaccinations are not due until early August.

I spoke with the director of immunizations at the health department. ALL flu shots in the country expired on 6/30/2013. None will be available until sometime in late August. they are $22 at the health dept.

Thanks for finding out the cost, I was wondering how much it would be.

Orientation tomorrow (and for me my drug test), see you all there!!

What are you guys doing for a stethoscope?

Im getting a Littmans Classic II, what about you?

I made it into FAMU's program, so I'm giving up my seat. Good news for both me and one lucky alternate :) Good luck in the program everyone!

Hey guys!! Congrats on getting into the program, I'm SO excited!

I just have a couple of basic (stupid) questions & I would really appreciate some answers to... anything helps.

-Do we wear uniforms on our first day of class or just for labs and clinicals? I just ordered mine and they said it should take 2 weeks....I'm freaking out..

-We learn our class schedules the night before classes start, right? Or is it the day of?

-Do we come with all of our books on the first day??

Please reply!
