Tallahassee Community College Fall 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone!! I haven't found a thread for this Fall's group of nursing applicants. So far, I've been denied to 5 universities and have applied to 5 more programs around the state, including TCC. Although I didn't want to settle for an ASN, TCC's nursing programs is one of the best in the state, and I'm really hoping I make the cut.

Some stats- I have a 3.4 pre-req GPA, finished all the courses and scored a total 94% on HESI. (Reading:94, Grammar:96, Math:100, Vocab:84) So I've calculated that I have 146/160 points for admission.

From the other forums, it seems like I've got a decent shot here for once.. this journey has been a little discouraging so far but I'm hanging in there.

I'd love to hear from some of you potential class-mates, and your stats or other info you may have heard about this program.

Best of luck everyone!!! We've all worked extremely hard to get to this point, and still have a lot of work before we reach the end!

So, I tried, and yes. It said I wasn't admitted or I didn't declare. Huh? The acceptance letter said to register right away. I'm confused

I'm fairly certain we can't register for any fall class at this moment. It's just too early is all.

any one do the background check stuff yet?

Hi everybody, I was accepted first as an alternate and I just got my acceptance email to the program :) Has anybody taken their CPR class yet?

Congrats on the alternate spot. hope you get in this term.

thanks for the reminder for the BLS class, i need to sign up for that tomorrow

I wrote an email and they said that after June 28th those who accepted their position in the Fall 2013 class will have their admission status changed and they should be able to register that day or very soon after. I'm afraid I don't know about the alternates.

Still have to have my physical, fingerprinting, and BLS class. I had the chicken pox around 15 years ago. How difficult would it be to retrieve those records from my former pediatrician? I imagine they've been archived by now. I'd prefer not to pay extra for the blood titers (I'm stingy about weird things and I'd prefer not to give more blood than absolutely necessary- argument for digitizing health records?).

I'm trying to do as much as possible before the orientation bc I'll be out of town for most of July and August until school starts. What do you know about uniforms? What leeway are we given?

I believe the state of Florida has some medical records digitized (like immunizations) so you may be able to check with your local health clinic to ask them. I did not go to the doctor when I was little when I got chicken pox, so I have no way to prove it without a titer.

I think uniforms are $35 for a set, white shoes (not sure if leather top is mandatory or not), and it takes two-three weeks to receive them after ordering. They have to have embroidery, are Caribbean blue in color, and you can wear a white long sleeved undershirt under them in lieu of a special jacket. I think I would order a jacket just in case though, because while Florida winters aren't as harsh as say, up north, they can get cold.

Alright classmates!! Registration is OPEN! Sign up for your classes ;)

I didn't register for 1020L, 1022L, or 1214L yet because the class times were listed as TBA. I guess I'll keep checking back.

Additionally, I read the instructions more closely and you can submit a varicella titer OR a record of varicella immunization. Simply having chicken pox recorded in your medical records isn't sufficient proof.

Does anyone know where we can find reviews of instructors? I only saw one on ratemyprofessor.com.

I havent registered for classes yet, because I have not taken the initial orientation to the school, and wont until next week.

Is anybody else having trouble finding a BLS class? I got the run a round at Southeastern and every other class I've called either didnt pick up or didn't have the class.

I can't find any reviews of professors either..

What do you mean by "given the run around" by the people at Southeastern? That's where I was planning on taking the class, too.

Well I called Friday at 3 pm, and I was put on hold for about thirty minutes while somebody on the other end tried to connect me to the office where they do the registration. Nobody picked up, and finally a guy that wasn't even the original person I talked to picked up and told me that their office that does the registration is closed until Monday and to try calling back then, I did not know that they close on Fridays early. I called today like the man told me to and got a voicemail indicating that they are closed until next week, which is unfortunate seeing as the class I wanted to take is on the day they reopen. Hopefully I can call early that morning and see if I can get in, but its very last minute. I have tried calling two other places that I heard offer CPR courses and they all redirect me to Southeastern, so I feel like that is my only option. Just sucks for me because I only have Mondays and Wednesdays off work, and thats the last Monday class they offer for the month!
