Taking the PSB Test, Monday 5/4/09

Hi Everyone,

I'm not accustomed to writing in boards so please excuse any amateur mistakes.

Monday, May 4th at 5pm I'm scheduled to take the PSB exam. Thankfully the school has no waiting list for their LPN program that starts in the fall. The application was pretty easy and I passed the placement test with flying colors, no prereqs required. But now it's time for the big test and I'm so nervous. They only accept 26 students each year. This is a new program at a small community college, 3 semesters to LPN and then the Brigde to RN which is 2 more semesters. Does anyone have any study advise. How hard is the PSB? I've spent the last 4 weeks, 2-3 hours a day brushing up on algebra and biology. Those are what I fear most. I take some comfort in knowing that if I don't make the top 26 I still automatically qualify to start the RN program in the fall. I'll graduate at the same time, I just won't be able to work as an LPN after the first 3 semesters. Gosh I'm so nervous I can barely type. Help :bugeyes:

How was the PSB? I am taking it next week and I'm freaking out!

Hey guys,

I took the PSB in May for a community college RN program (Collin College). The exam will seem really intimidating at first because it looks really jumbled up (the spacing between questions on mine was nonexistent and there are different types of questions mixed in each section randomly).

There are five different sections: academic aptitude, spelling, reading comprehension, natural sciences, and vocational adjustment.

Academic Aptitude: had analogies with words and shapes and mathematics. After the exam I left feeling pretty bad about this section.

Spelling: this section was not too bad, but there are some fairly long words. One of the answers will definitely look wrong, but the other two will look very similar.

Reading Comprehension: very simple. Read the passage and answer the questions.

Natural Sciences: very easy as long as you have completed A&P/Micro. I was 98th percentile on this one.

Vocational Adjustment: how well you work with others, personality, very easy.

I left feeling really uneasy about what I scored, but when I got my scores I was very surprised. I scored very high on all sections (well above average).

You guys can do it! Just review your sciences, practice doing a few reading comprehension exercises and try to review some analogies.

I have a question........

did you have any sciences before you took the PSB........ A&P, BIO or Chem? I have been studying but some of the sample tests have questions like......

what does Boyle's law state?

what are the characteristics of gas?

what is the ideal gas law?

I may have been sleeping in class that day, or just didn't retain it in High School. Also, I haven't had any college level sciences. :banghead:

I was worried for the compass too....and I scored in the high 90's. I HOPE I'm just freaking out for nothing! :(

I had taken, Gen Bio I, AP I/II, Micro, and Chem before I took the exam. I don't remember there actually being a lot of Chem on it, I remember there being a lot of Micro and Bio on it though.

I am sure you will do great though! :-D

Gentylwind - have you heard anything from Collin County? I called them a few weeks ago and they said we should be getting letters about two weeks into September!
