Taking 2 online courses at the same time?

Hi! I am a pre nursing student and so far I finished Math,(A-) Chemistry (A-) and Biology.(B+) I am now taking my final pre requite: English. I don't plan to start the practical nursing program until September 2016 and I am thinking about taking 2 online courses until then. (Sociology and Developmental Psychology) Because they are part of the nursing program. My question is: Should I take both of these course online at the same time or do one at a time? I want to finish both of them before Sept 2016 but I want to be realistic at the same time. I won't be able to start the online courses until January When I figure I will be finished the English course. Any advice is appreciated! :)

I took both of those courses online with other courses. They are easier than most of your general ed courses and can definitely be taken at the same time.

I will be taking Developmental Psych online in the summer, along with microbio (not online). Took Sociology this summer and was a really decent, interesting class. But like someone said before me I never took an online class so will be interesting this summer.

I have taken two psychology courses online and loved it. Lots of writing as we had many research papers to submit. I took sociology in person and sort of regretted that decision. So it's definitely dependent upon the professor and the online system you use. You could check rate my professor to see what past students have to say on the matter.

I'm taking developmental psychology online and it is fairly easy for me. My instructor uses a calendar for us to go by for submission dates and he utilizes MyPsychLab.

I've taken up to 4 courses online at the same time. So 2 in one semester wouldn't make me blink.

I think it's great practice for nursing school in that it forces you to be organized and plan, self sufficient, and get comfortable looking for resources when you need it.

You have to realize that just like in brick and mortar classes you can end up with a sucky teacher and you have to learn to learn and pass despite this.

Online classes sometimes requires more writing assignments to make up for the amount of time you would be in class.

I think you should be fine. You just have to make sure you are aware of deadlines since you won't have a professor reminding you. I took both of these online and did well. However, if you are not the type of student who cannot keep track of deadlines without reminders, it might not be for you.

Thanks for your reply. Did you find you had enough time before the deadlines? How long are each of these courses? Plus, how do you submit your work? Is it all online? Like taking and submitting the work? I have no idea how it works! lol

All the work is submitted online, conversations, essays, assignments, quizzes and tests. Except for English Comp, midterm and final had to be on campus. They give you a syllabus just like a regular class with due dates. Every school has its own system, many use Blackboard /Learn. But my math class for example was entirely on the textbook publishers website because it was quizzes and tests.

I wrote all my due date one to 2 days ahead of their actual due date on my calendar. Have to make time for reading just like any other class. The course runs just as long as the regular semester. However, depending on your instructor, you may be able to work ahead and submit things early to get it out of the way.

I had mine entirely online. They usually consisted of a weekly assignment, quiz and discussion board posting. As well as a term paper in place of a final. It was a very manageable workload for me.
