hi everyone, congrats to those who passed the nclex. i am a pre-nursing student getting ready to apply to the nursing program for FALL 2010. I know that i shouldn't be worrying about the nclex just yet but wanted any information anyone has about the test. your advice should be helpful. My questions are:

1. What do you mean when you said "i only got to 95 questions or i got to 265 question?" what does this mean??

2. Where do you register to take the boards at and where do you take them?

3. What is the difference if you are a graduate nurse GN working in a hospital rather than a RN? I thought you had to pass the boards before you work in the hospital...

4. anymore study tips any of you might have PLEASE DO SHARE!!!

psk09 thanks i will definately use these tips! rebecca6890 the answer to the first question you can receive anywhere from 75 questions to 265 questions it just depends on how you are doing. You have to be above passing to pass the test. The test can determine with the amount of questions you have answered if you are going to pass or not so if it shuts off you either pass or fail there is really no way to determine if you passed or not by how many questions you get. You register for your test via pearson website and the department of health website you must register at both places because one is for your state boards and one is for pearson which is the place that you go to take the test. GN is when you graduate and just start working at a hospital without a license. you can do this for upto 6 months but RN is when you actually have passed the boards.

1. Depending on which NCLEX you are sitting there is a min and max number of questions you will be asked. For RN the min is 75 and max is 265, for LPN/LVN the min is 85 and max 205. People get stressed answering any number of questions and feel that their number may have a significant meaning. It doesn't, the more you go over the min number just means the computer can not determine within 95% that you are answering pass or fail so will continue asking questions until it can make that determination.

2. You apply to the state that you wish to live and work and meet their requirements for RN or LPN/LVN, pay any fees and then once eligible pay pearsonvue who will then once receive OK from board of nursing send you your ATT (Authorisation to test) and you can organise sitting exam.

3. Not all states will allow you to work as a GN (graduate Nurse) before sitting and passing NCLEX

4. I would concentrate on getting through nursing school and wait to worry about NCLEX as your school should prepare you towards the exam

I did the PVT trick about 50x's and I kept getting the good pop up, I finally was able to pay for my results and I passed!! Took test on Dec. 14th found out results on the 16th that I passed. Received the white small GOOD envelope in the mail that I passed and today I put in for a nursing job. It's a great, great feeling when you finally see "PASSED". I think you PASSED!! Congrads :yeah:

Don't get discouraged! I don't know if you are a spiritual person or not but I can tell you what helped me pass my 3rd time was the fact that I decided that it was no longer me in control of my situation. With that being said we all say we believe in a higher power but how often do we really rely on that. So what i did was i got closer and closer to GOD by reading the Bible and praying and praying and praying. And if you don't already know it prayer changes things. I tell you it was only by the grace of GOD that I passed this test because I felt just like you. My spirits were down but I got through it because of Him! I now let him lead my every move because He is the one in control. God does things in our lives to make us understand that it is not about ourselves and that we have to become humble as little children and until we do this we will always have troubles in our way. The Bible says in Philippians Chapter 4 verse 13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Hold to that! Pray and keep going. Believe and Trust GOD! Let Him be your guide. Just have faith and I am sure that he will give you what your heart truly desires! Hang in there and I will keep you in my prayers!

psk09 and cutegrltoyaI will be a third timer as well and congratulations i know you were so excited and working as a great nurse, but I was wanting to know for how long did you study (like how many months) and prepare for the nclex the 3rd time around. thank you with any reply
