First off, it's not a license, it's a certification.
Secondly, it's not that hard. In fact, I'm surprised you've never had a CPR class before in your life, I had to take one as part of my health class in high school. They'll teach you proper technique for using barrier devices, Bag-Valve-Masks, and AEDs, as well as the ratios and mechanical techniques for Adult, Child, and Infant CPR. As long as you can learn by example you should have no problems with the class.
It's pretty easy. At the beginning of my last CPR class the instructor said "everyone here will go home with a CPR card". When students brought their failed tests back, she would say things like "look at #24... are you sure about that answer? Remember we went over that and we said the answer was ____?"
I felt the same way before my course (I too had never taken a CPR course). Honestly though it seems as though they wont allow you to fail, so dont worry! We did our test in pairs and marked it together as a class and didnt even hand it in! hee hee. I found all the information interesting - its easy to pay attention when you think about the fact that one day you may need to perform CPR on someone you love (even before we become nurses).
Prior to taking the CPR course, I thought the same thing: "What if I don't pass b/c I really need this in order to start nursing school". I have taken it three times since and every time it's been done so it is not stressful and fun. They repeat key points, go step-by-step, and then we practice over and over. In my case, the test at the end is usually open book; once, we even did the test together orally where people shouted the answers. We practiced on mannequins (adult and child) w/ various situations, they used helpful mnemonics to help remember the steps, worked with AEDs and ambu-bags. So basically, I wouldn't stress about this b/c it actually can be kind of fun. I did the CPR cert through the Vital Link.
