Swine flu raises fear of pandemic - Adults and Children

I have been watching this breaking news with much interest. Unfortunately, I can only come up with one conclusion. The zombies are coming, the zombies are coming to eat our flesh. We had best be ready...

I've been getting my cricket bat and shotgun ready.

Cooking pork thoroughly (which you should be doing anyway because of other diseases!) kills the virus.

Or better yet just don't eat the filthy animal.

I just want to comment that I see on the right side of my screen as I read this, an ad for "Swine Flu Masks" $20 for 20 masks.. which amount to basic construction dust masks... not sterilized masks by any stretch of the imagination.

Ah Google ads, you never cease to make things inappropriately funny.

and now they are talking swine flu in relation to the derby. Stupid pigs, all their fault.

2 million will die? This is terrible, in a worst-case scenario for the USA.

The students returning from Mexico are unaware of the epidemic at hand. I called to tell my son. He says no one has informed them. He can not read or speak spanish. All newspapers and TV are in spanish. He does not have a lap-top either. He would not have know about this until he went to the airport. I have told him to take precautions, luckily he is medical personel-so he knows what to do now and is informing anyone who does not speak or read spanish of the epidemic. I can't believe the CDC has not thought about all of them?

It'll be interesting to see if those who were at the park on the same day as the infected tourist fall sick, too. That might show just how contagious (or not) this swine flu is.

They keep talking about the 50 million doses of Tamiflu -- Well, last I heard, there's over 400 million of us.

If I see Randall Flagg, I'm outta here.... I'd take zombies and go hang out at the Winchester and eat toasties anytime....

Tamiflu and Relenza are being given to the sickest patients within the first 48 hours only. After 48 hours it has no effect on the virus. It can make the flu's effects less severe for some. No guarantee. It should not be taken if you are not sick. Doing so could cause the virus to mutate more. Every country and state has it's own supply. More is being made and preparation is underway-per CDC for a pandemic. Take regular precautions and don't panic-that won't help anyone.Prepare to stay home, so shop for some extra food and you won't have to go out. If you have to go out wear a mask and wash those hands. "Single most effective wash to stop the spread of disease".

And I bet ole Randall is out there somewhere biding his time. Give me zombies any day.

This is a suspected case, not confirmed. If someone has an acute respiratory infection and meet certain criteria, it is considered suspicious. The state then tests the specimen and determines if it seems positive for swine flu. It is is, then it is upgraded to probably, and sent to the CDC where it may or may not be confirmed.

So there isn't a confirmed case yet. This is where the media really needs to be more responsible, as well as those in the hospital-they need to learn the correct terminology in discussing these things because of leaks and the ever-present media.
