Hey everyone, just wondering if there are any SWIC students here that applyed for the nursing program for entry into the program this summer. I applied already, super freaking out because im jst waiting and waiting on my letter.so jst wanted 2 start this board for possibly other applicants 2 vent or give tips out on dealing with the wait
:nurse:Hello Everyone! I remember being in your shoes last year around this time! Waiting for that letter is very hard!! After all the waiting I got my acceptance letter and I am about to finish my first year. The time flies!!! If I could give any advice it would be to get started on all of your immunizations as soon as you get your acceptance letter, take the summer NE 100 class b/c you will need to be proficient in your calculations for all test and before you can pass meds at clinicals, and if you haven't already establish good organizational and time management skills start now! This is an awesome program with GREAT instructors, but it requires you to be dedicated! I love it! If you guys have any questions please ask. I wish someone would have start this thread last year...lol:)
Check this out too!!!
thanks busyallthetime for the advice and the great link.the wait is horrible and it is driving my crazy, but i hope in the end all the waiting will be worth it.do you know of any students in your class that took biology with their nursing classes, i was just wondering was it impossible for them. I have to take bio 158 in the fall because im taking 157 this summer.
Yes there are several of my friends taking non nursing courses now, but it is really hard on them! I would recommend getting them out of the way as soon as possible! Nursing classes themselves are very time consuming and its a whole different style of test and demands! Also the grading scale changes. Its no longer 90-100 an A and so on. Its 93-100 A 85-92 B 76-84 C, and you cannot score lower than a 76...anything less isn't passing. I think you will be fine. As long as a person wants it they can achieve it...LOL!
I'm with "Busy" too - just finishing up my first year and I remember all to well being in your shoes this time last year! For the last couple of years the minimum # of points you could have was 15. From what I heard from classmates, there were so many 15's that they had to break it down to GPA's. I had 21, but I did complete all of my non-nursing classes prior to the start of the program. As far as Clinical Calculations this summer - take it! Even if you do pass the 'test out' exam. There is soooo much pharmacology included with this course - it's not information you will want to skip.
You're right Busy, this info would have been great last year when we were waiting to get in!! :)
Good Luck!
I am bugging the mailman too about my letter. It's hard to plan unless I know if I'm in or not. I have to work full time while in school, and my DON wants me to be able to tell her exactly what will happen--and I'm not sure what that will be. I realize my schedule will change alot, but think if I continue to work evening shift, that I will have a little more flexibility (unless you consider the clinicals on the weekends). It's so hard to plan with work what will happen, because I feel like everything is unknown at this point. Is anyone else planning on working while attending the program?
