Hello everyone I am new to all nurses I wanted to know have anyone heard of The swedish Institute Nursing program? anyone apply? anyone attending? any info at all would be appreciated. :)

You need to thoroughly research any school before applying. A quick Google search brought me to the school's website and their nursing program is new, first class admitted January of 2012, which means they have not had a graduating class yet. They are only state accredited, they are not NLNAC or CCNE accredited. This means if you decide to pursue a higher degree such as your BSN, your classes will not transfer for credit, and you will be forced to start over. I would pass on this school and look for one that is accredited.

Since this is a for-profit school their webiste must include disclosures about their costs and placement rate. Since this is a newly approved program there is no graduation or NCLEX pass rate data available.

NY State Office of Professions of the Department of Education is the "board of nursing' for NY State. Good luck.

Thank you for your response:). I am aware they are new I saw the website and spoke to a rep and he was open and honest about there accreditation I just wanted to know if anyone had any knowledge of the school personally.

I honestly doubt you will get any answers on this forum. I heard about this school from my friend who later decided to not attend. At a time where it's so crucial for nurses in NY to have a BSN, why even consider a school whose credits won't transfer? This was my friend's main concern.

I heard of the Swedish Institute in late December and was VERY excited about it. I have tried to apply to several nursing programs in the NYC metro area with no avail. I am a college graduate and this is my second career path. I met with the Dean on my second visit and it felt like a whirlwind, just like that I was accepted (I had previously taken the NLN-Pax exam and had the results and my transcripts with me) and I began classes last week. Yes it is a risk that the program is not nationally accredited, but they are in the process with the NLN to become accredited - the last stage of accreditation can only be completed once the first graduating class is in it's final semester which happens this May. Credits should transfer to other schools, but like any with any college/university it is up to the college taking the credits to be willing to accept them (as the Swedish Institute is accredited by the NYS Regents/BOE their credits should transfer). I did EXTENSIVE research into National and State Accreditation before beginning at Swedish for this reason. I wish you well, and would be willing to answer any questions you have. GOOD LUCK!

So classes are scheduled M-F between 9-5. Typical classes are morning class with afternoon lab (if there is a lab that goes with the class), and there is only one section for each class, and it meets only once per week; clinical rotations can happen on weekends. Clinical for Fundamentals happen at Kateri Nursing Home, Med/Surg can be at WoodHull, St. Luke's, or any HHC hospital of NYC.The entrance exam is the NLN-PAX.
