You must have the pediatrics and labor/delivery and psych rotations to qualify to sit for the exams here. Our laws specify that you must be a first level-general nurse. We don't have the specialties over here when you are in school. Everyone does all of the rotations. And these rotations must be done in an approved school of nursing, not just working at a hospital for htose hours..................The law doesn't state that you have to have the hours from your school that you are attending now, just an approved progr

The recruiters can tell you what ever they want, they just want to get a body signed up. But CGFNS will not allow you to sit for their exam, no board of nursing will allow you to sit without all of the required course content, and the US Embassy will not offer a green card to you without it. Funny thing is that I hear of and see more problems with placements being done from the U.K. And funnier is that all of you speak fluent English. I would expect that from some other areas in the world.

There are no short cuts to working in the US. Sure, anyone can promise you something, but can they actually deliver it? NO. There are certain rules that need to be followed, just as certain applications to be filed. And the applications can actually all be filed at the same time, to save someone alot of time. But I don't believe the recruiters are doing that. They are going one step at a time. With proper sequencing, there is no reason that any of you can't be in the US in just about one year. Things just need to be done correctly in the first place.

That is exactly the problem because that curriculum alone is not accepted in the US to be able to write the exams. What I have also been hearing from some nurses is that their school will not let them take the other courses so that they get their proper training in.

Then you have the crazy recruiters that will promise anything to have a nurse sign on the bottom line and then it all falls through. Sure, there are some very good recruiters out there, as well as some that are extremely unscrupulous. Many of the PMs that I do receive are from nurses in the U.K. that are having tons of problems after signing contracts. I get mail from nurses from all over the world and I think what is happening is that the recruiters are telling you over in the U.K. that they will handle everything, but they don't do it in a fashion that I would. They wait for you to do one thing, then they go onto the next. All should be submitted at the same time. There is no reason that you can't. Especially, you sdon't even have to take the English exams, and my students do. Everything actually tells you to do it as soon as possible.

For example,

Visa Screen application, as well as the handbook, state that is your goal is to work in the US in the near future, submit this application as soon as possible.

There is no reason to wait until you have completed your exams. This is especially true if you are not going to write CGFNS exam, and only NCLEX.

If you do the work yourself, then you have the choice of going wherever you want in the country, not where your agency has a contract with. Many of the better hospitals do not use this type of recruiter. Money is being paid to the agency, shouldn't it go to you? You can negotiate a much better deal yourself. Remember the money that is going to the agency would have been going to you.

You would be looking for a maternal and child health program. In order to be a midwife in the US, as a nurse, you have to be Master's prepared and hold Advance Nurse Practitioner standing in your state. You will also need the psych rotation.

I think that you could do these rotations in the US. They would definitely be acceptable to CGFNS and the boards of nursing. You will just have to contact various schools and see if they accept guest students, as you would still be getting your diploma in your country. You would be coming over on an F-1 visa, so you would need to be sponsored by a school for that and will not be allowed to work during that time. The only drawback to that.

Let me know what you decide. You could also go over to any of the other countries in the E.U. if that is easier for you. Just make sure that the training is in English....................

thanks for your advice. Will finish 3years degree (adult nursing) then see if I can study 18 months ( mental health) then will try and study the next 2 in USA. Getting accepted in Child and Midwifery classes in this country is very difficult. This might take forrever to finish. What do you think? Please write back.

If your goal is to work in the US, why are you going to spend 18 months doing psych in the UK when you could do it in just a few months in the US?

I would just try to go as a guest student as soon as you finish your three year program, especially if the US is really where you want to work.

I have been lucky to find a good recruiter, she has helped alot, we are also lucky to going where we want to go plus I trained many years ago when the training did cover everything. I tried a couple of yrs ago to go with a agency (that I know you are aware of from another thread )and because I met my now husband and put it on hold. This I think was a blessing in disguise as when we decided to try again and I went back to that company alot had changed and not for the better. I know someone that wanted AZ but ended up in Colorado with this agency because they said they couldn't get her a job in AZ and once she got out there she had very little help from said agency despite everything we had been told by them. She was very glad to finish her contract with them.

There seems to be a big problem with the recruiters over there not keeping their word. I would try to stay as far away from them as possible. It costs roughly about $5500 US for immigration attorney to process your paperwork, which is less than two months of your salary that you will be getting in the US. Why deal with an agency unless you really have to? My personal opinion of many that I have seen in your part of the world actually frighten me. That they would stoop so low is -----, but they can only do that if someone is willing to buy into it. Why are many of the British nurses so gullible? That is probably what it boils down to.................these agencies should be reported when they don't live up to their cintracts.
