i'm not aware of websites.
you should google "suprapubic catheters" and click on images.
is this for clinicals?
it's really very straightforward.
just remember to irrigate before you do catheter care.
- pour the prescribed amt of solution in receptacle, provided in irrigation tray.
- MAINTAIN STERILITY
- draw up prescribed amt into piston syringe
- cleanse connection (alcohol wipe) between catheter and drainage system.
- separate tubing
- insert syringe into catheter tubing, and let it flow.
- if doc orders irrigant to dwell in bladder, do so for time ordered, then let it flow out.
- reconnect tubing
and never raise bag above abdomen.
backflow of urine can/does cause uti's.
best of everything.
you'll do just fine.

Good instructions, Leslie.
Reminds me of a horrible facility I once worked at that had a number of patients with SP catheters. I asked the same question as the OP since I had never flushed one before. One of the other nurses pulled out a styrofoam cup off the med cart and handed me a used 60 cc syringe (not sterile). Apparently, the nurses were flushing out catheters with tap water poured into styrofoam cups. I was horrified to say the least.
