Supplemental Classes for CRNA

Published

(this might have been posted else where, but I couldn't find it) I have some extra time to take classes over the summer, I was wondering what classes would be most beneficial to me if I plan on applying to nurse anesthetist school? (ie physics, o-chem (not intro to o-chem))

Thanks

Most BSN programs have a research class. Most CRNA programs require a graduate statistics class before you matriulate, and I am atking the research class before my program starts. Just make sure to check and verify the class you are taking will fulfill any special requirements.

If you are already accepted then I would relax this summer and take it easy. Brush up on stats, and maybe some general chemistry and AMA formatting for your papers. They are going to teach you everything you need to know in the program don't sweat it. You will realize soon enough that you don't know Jak Stat once you get into the program.

In RE to: Are "nursing research" classes standard courses in a BSN curriculum? I notice a lot of schools require that class

I am just finishing up my BSN this December. My school requires Nursing Research for the BSN. Therefore, I am taking it right now. I think this course is very helpful in learning how to analyze research articles.

I think that if you have all the standard requirements start taking some of the core grad classes.

Two words of caution about taking "Core" classes before starting the program as told to me by my program director:

1) Financial aid is credit hour dependent. Make sure that if you take corre classes before the program that you check to make sure that you will have enough credits to be eligible for Fin Aid. For federal Aid half time enrollment, usually 6 credit hours minimum is required. Some schools may have scholarshipsor other assistance that requires fulltime, usually 9 credit hours, in order to recieve such aid.

2) Certain Core classes are designed to be for SRNA's only. For instance, i wanted to take my Advanced Health Assessment class this fall to get it out of the way. The director has all the first year SRNA's take it together, and only his students take it from this one professor.

So be careful before deciding to jump into extra core classes. Just my 2 cents worth.
