I have a necklace that I wore to my first nursing school exam and I just have to wear it to every single exam otherwise my world just might end I'm super nervous because we have a med calc test on the first day of clinical and we're not allowed to wear jewelry! I hope it will still work as my "good luck charm" while in my uniform pocket! Haha but I totally understand the superstitions!
During my pre-reqs I would put my West Wing DVDs on in the background while I studied for tests, and during tests I would wear my pearl earrings that my husband bought me a few years ago. I don't know what my weird little routines will be be once I start my program, but I am sure I will have some.
I think this is more of a habit/routine rather than a superstition, but when I study alone, I'm ALWAYS at Starbucks listening to non-lyrical music (usually electric/dubstep) and drinking either a hot or iced cafe mocha with soy and no whip. Haha. It has gotten me through first semester pretty well so no reason why I should stop
I wear my lucky blue canvas converse high tops
Every test.
I also read my notes into a tape recorder, while Disney music is playing in background.
Then when I sleep I listen to it, with monsters inc playing
This works I was valedictorian in my Lon program, and keeping a 4.0 in RN program.
Back when I first returned to school, my daughter gave me a lucky charm for me on exam day.
Well, bless her little pre-teen heart, because she gave me her Jonas Brothers pencil.
And I used it for many many exams-- with varied results.
I did get razzed about it, but I have a good sense of humor and joked that Joe was my favorite-- and don't no one rip on Joe or my pencil!
By the time I was finishing up nursing school, the Jonas Brothers were passe and my daughter (by then a teenager) could not believe I still had the pencil and had the nerve to use it.
I told her that was exactly why I loved being an old fart-- we don't really care what others think and we embrace our inner dork.
I also told her that I would always remember her giving it to me and that it meant a lot to me that she did that... therefore, I would continue to use it.
I'm also ashamed to admit that I felt anxious if I did not have it!
I've been a nurse for two years now...
Thanks, Joe!

As I'm sitting here making my med cards, I realized I have a superstition that gets me through. I religiously watch deathly hallows part 1 & 2 while I study and make note cards. (waving my nerd flag) I, for some reason (?), find it comforting and I feel like I can concentrate better when it's on.
Hey whatever gets us through, right?!?
So what's your superstition?! I'd love to know! :-)
