Hi Amo

Welcome Ado.  Caregiving in both career and personal life is indeed difficult.

Busy day yesterday.  Got the crock pot recipe started in the morning and baked cornbread.  Then went to the dentist, thankfully everything was fine.  Then lunch with dad.  Then a meeting of the capital campaign committee, which again ran a bit long.  Came home and  exercised and  watched Svengoolie.   Also sent in my pledge for the capital campaign, wanted to get that done before I had time to regret it ?

Today will be quieter.  In church a bit early to practice as the choir is singing.  Planning  on brunch with J if he feels up to it.  While I'm out that way want to stop at the arboretum gift shop, want to get one of their puzzles.  The ones I liked for some reason aren't available online.  In the afternoon and evening I'll bake bread, should have plenty of time for that.

Was quite cold yesterday, will be the same today, only up to 20

Good Morning!

I've never quite understood why so many people around the country watch teams that aren't their own or even care.  Also interesting how it's become somewhat of a holiday with "what are you doing for the Super Bowl" being asked often.  I have friends that care about the party, the commercials and the half-time show more than the actual game.  ?

Joe, hope you have a good day and that J is feeling well.

Ado, sounds like you have a full house.  I can relate to the idea that every day the hospital makes you wonder why you do it.  You're still young enough to find a new direction but sometimes you want to stay with the familiar rather than risk doing something you might not like.  I'm kind of in that situation myself.  I decided to stay put which I'll probably regret.

facebook has a group from my high school and when I read about a peer that has passed I get sad.  One recently died from covid and several from cancer.  Maybe when I get in my 90's I'll get a sense of "I'm still here!!"  I remember once my mother lamenting that all her friends have died.  Not sure I want to live that long.  But she's only 85 so I hope that I do.

My houseguest, my brother-in-laws dog is settled in.  At first she was nervous and paced a lot.  She's found the water bowl and uses pads to do her business.  I've seen her poke her head at the doggie door but didn't go out.  The last time she stayed with me she didn't go out either.

My brother in law is taking a weekend getaway with his new girlfriend.  My sister, his ex wife usually dog sits but she's going through some emotionally drama apparently.  She's withdrawn from me and I don't know what's going on, but she is communicating with her daughter, so I hope she's okay.  She's bipolar and it sounds like she's on a low.  She's also an opiate addict and we always worry she's using, but she says she isn't.   When I check on her she doesn't answer and when I text she ignores me.

Anyway, my brother in law is still family and he deserves to be happy.  He still keeps up with my sister's daughter (his step-daughter) as his own and her children as his grandchildren.

Not much going on today.

Tweety, (and I'm sure you know this!) Jade is so precious!  Does she ever play with or cuddle with your dogs?  Does she use the pee pad at her own home, or go outside for "business?"

Joe, what did you make in the crockpot?  Something to go with the cornbread?  How was today's service, and how did choir go?

We had a very nice day yesterday!  Long-time friends (B & S) texted asking if we wanted to meet for lunch.  Heck yeah!!  We met for lunch at a Cajun/creole restaurant, which is always tasty, and yesterday was no exception.  They serve food that we don't usually have, and that I don't cook.  Eggplant creole with black beans and rice, and two plantain.  Chicken benedict.  A creole-style omelet.  Cornbread.  They were out of ginger beer.  Dh had peach beignets for dessert.  And best of all, we got to visit with our friends.  We have been friends and musical buddies since before either of us had kids.

Dh and I left around 3:30 and ran home so he could host the Jamkazam jam, then we drove to our friends' place with the instruments and had a nice impromptu dinner (lots of talking, of course!) and played some music afterwards.  Left at 11pm.  It was VERY pleasant, just a really good, satisfying day!

This morning when I got up, dh had already been texting with B about some of the music we did.

Today I need to get out and do a few errands.  One of our cats (the oldest) has a growth on her lower lip that she scratches and breaks open every now and then, and it will bleed.  She has a favorite chair she sleeps on, and I am going to get a towel to cover the chair where she sleeps.

The rest of the day will just be household chores: change sheets and towels, do a load of wash (my uniforms), fill medisets, stop by grocery store.  The usual fascinating, scintillating things.

Have a good day!  (miss herring!)

Started snowing litely again last nite. Seemed to slow down but is now starting up again. I hate it when my LR skylights 'snow over'. Makes me even colder. /////  I guess Ted & Amy aren't returning??? /////  I read somewhere that Superbowl Sunday is THE most 'call-out-of-work' day in the working world. I hated being Supervisor on this day in LTC. Every shift was affected. Mother's Day was anothher dreaded day. Regulars would call out and no one would work extra.

Ado - welcome again.

What is it with TV when people call other females '***itches'???!???  I find it soooo offensive! I am NOT a prude. /////  Thinking of making a pizza later. Have all the fixins. My Dad used to 'hang out' at the pizza parlor across from the garage where he worked. He would 'volunteer' on Superbowl Sunday just to help out the guys make pizzas.

I really miss herring, too. I had sent a card w/ a SASE so it might be easier for someone to send me a note back from her, if she couldn't....but never heard back, so I don't know. I hope she is okay.

Tweety, Sometimes if it's a "BIG" game, I will watch it -- but not if it's football! The year that LA had that awful earthquake, I had, on a whim, turned on the World Series (I wasn't following baseball that year). And all of a sudden the camera pictures started shaking, and someone on mic said,  "I think we're having an earthquake." and someone else said, "We ARE having an earthquake!" It was kind of bizarre to witness it live on TV, and then later to see that whole section of elevated highway had given way; that made it 'REAL" if you know what I mean. Scary!!

Joe, do you make bread in a bread-making machine or do you knead-let rise-and-knead some more? I gave up baking bread the 'old-fashioned way' because my hands, especially my thumbs at that time, didn't tolerate kneading one single solitary bit. I often thought of buying a bread-maker but decided that since fresh bread, slathered with real butter is my especial weakness, it was probably a better idea NOT to get one. It was either that or go up 4 sizes in clothing!

It is 43 degrees (yesterday it was sunny, and I think we got to 67 or 68) and the wind has picked up, and the sun is hiding behind the heavy gray clouds now. Brrrr! Now we'll be cold for 3-4 days and then it will start to warm up again. Have had a little bit of rain; glad not to be up in the mountains anymore, and commuting to private duty cases on snowy, +/or icy roads. Now I just sit home and grumble about the cold.

Nannie and Ozzie are doing their afternoon siesta here in the den. Hubby is siesta-ing up in his room. Pretty soon he'll come down and say, "Well, have you thought about supper yet?" Only in writing this, that's the only thought I have had. Yesterday he started listing off the places he could go pick up our supper and to every place he listed, Nannie and I said, "Okay, yes." Then he started listing food options, to which we, again, very helpfully said, "Yes, okay." I, myself, would be very happy with a variety of what is referred to as "ethnic foods" but this household is pretty much your normal, all-American meat-and-potatoes with a veggie or two. However, the veggies chosen by Nannie and hubby are generally high-carb-veggies, like corn, beans, or beans, or maybe even some kind of beans (!)...unless it's fried okra or fried squash.

I filled the medisets and noted what needed refills...unfortunately several require Dr's Authorization, which takes unconscionably long even when sent in on-line as they suggest. Now that the practice has come under the hospitals name, they have a Call Center (of supposedly 500 people, which I seriously doubt!) to go through instead of talking to someone at the practice at which you are a patient, who is familiar with you, you have to tell someone who invariably gets SOMETHING wrong, and it takes even LONGER to straighten things out. Hooray for efficiency. Yuh.

I was right: hubby came down to the den and raised his eyebrows at me, to which I responded with a smile and a shrug and my hands held out to my sides with palms up. Supper will most likely be from Wendy's or Arby's, I'm guessin'.

Nannie just looked at me with a frown and said, "I feel like I have to go to the bathroom..."   (Oooookay-alrighty!)  I said, "Well, "Go on then." Better to get it done before the food arrives! I'm glad she's mostly self-care now; when we first moved in here, it took two of us (and repetitive verbal instructions) to just get her to stand up after she was through on the toilet. Thanks to the medications, she ain't even half so bad as she used to be. She also has not fallen in quite some time! --------OH! YEEKS!----I hope that's not got the same jinx that the word for "Q" has!

So arrives the meal-man, and I'm agonna go see what we are having for supper!

dianah -- Cajun sounds good! and sounds like a grand day

Joe -- our choir sang this morning, too. I went even though I filled in at work from 0000 to 0700 and had to be back tonight. We had a chili cookoff afterwards and someone had made jalapeno cornbread that was really good. I had a good visit with our choir director who is a college student.

Tweety et al -- I like football, and watch some NFL teams, though I don't really follow either of these. If I were home, I'd probably watch it with the guys. Guess I'd like to see the Bengals win since they have former Sooners Mixon and Perine. Tweety, I hope your job choice doesn't disappoint you. I feel like I *want* to *want* to work here, but they make it hard!

Oh, Stars, we get fast food so often it's embarrassing! Hubs and his mom lean towards the basic midwestern, bland, carb-loaded stuff whereas the "boys" and I are a little more adventurous. Today the guys "cooked" from their Final Fantasy XIV cookbook. Which meant we had 3 kinds of sandwiches -- egg salad, avocado/lettuce/tomato, and roast beef with horseradish. Grandma is obsessed with food, asks every 10 minutes if she can "go to the kitchen". When we are preparing food, she asks repeatedly if we're going to give her any. Or "well, when can I get some?" (um, when it's ready). When not wanting to go to the kitchen, she is stating she needs to go to the bathroom. We tell her she doesn't need our permission to go the bathroom. So she has to be reminded where it is. Or wants to go home. It's kind of sad but also very frustrating.

Hi all, and a big warm hug to Ado Annie! You certainly have a full plate. Are you in Oklahoma, by any chance? To me, part of the fun of this group is being aware of what part of the country they are in. But if you are not comfortable with that, no pressure.

We have had 2 sunny days in a row! It gets frosty overnight, but then warms up to 50. I rode my bike to the diner to have breakfast, but youngest ds, who usually joins me, over slept. It was a super cold ride. It's all down hill to get there, so its a quick trip, but the ride home takes longer, and my poor fingers were numb.

We went to see "Let it Be", a film about the Beatles roof top concert. It different than what I was expecting, but still good. You could see the bond between them, and the different personalities. I have new appreciation for John's guitar skills. When we got home, I poked around looking for more emerging bulbs. Crocus, and daffodils, and tulips, oh my.

We are leaving soon, as eldest ds invited us to dinner for an early birthday celebration for me. We are going to a new Italian restaurant. I hope they have gnocchi! I had my first acupuncture visit Friday, and my left hip sort of stings. He gave me a bunch of exercises, quite different from the PT. We shall see how this works out. Next visit is Tuesday.

Yup, dh wants to leave, see you'uns later.

Oh lordie, Ado Annie, I hope that Nannie never goes back to the "I want to go home" mind-set. THIS is her home, has been since 1975. For a while she thought she used to live across the street, and she thought her grandmother was still running a 25 bed boarding house like she did when Nannie was young and spoiled rotten. I don't miss the days of Nannie 'packing' some of her stuff and sneaking it out to her car. Of course, she had no key to it, and if she ever was to get out of the driveway she'd instantly be lost. We had thought of putting bolt-locks on the door, high up where she couldn't reach them, but she was a sly little so-and-so, and we just knew she'd drag a piece of furniture over to try to climb up and unlock it, and that might lead to another fall. Fortunately she was assessed by a geriatric-psych guy (twice!) after she got physical with my hubby. The med changes that were made which helped US a whole lot. She's a bit easier to deal with now, but it can certainly get tedious.

Anytime you have to vent, know there is someone here who TRULY understands. And you can PM me if you want, too.

Gnocchi sounds good, but I have a desire for stuffed shells. Never made the pizza - used a pineapple chicken TV dinner. New brand for me - rather tasty. Will prob buy again.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. I've been wanting chocolate covered cherries FOR MONTHS. As a kid, I remember my  Dad ritually buying my Mom a big box of GOOD chocolates, like a Whitman's Sampler. It would be wrapped in red cellophane or with a big red bow. His gift every year. As he got older, we kids would pickup his 'gift' & a card for our Mom. He would also buy my sister and me a mini-heart/candy gift (maybe 6 cherries}. I soooo looked forward to that gift each year. Funny the things that bubble up in memories. I did buy candy cherries last week - nice, but somewhat disappointing. I still like Reese's.

amo - late with my Valentine card for MIL.

I saw that you did that and it tickled me! Thanks, I needed a smile today! // For a while, a year or two ago, Tweety used to address answers meant for me, to another poster....frequently! (Ain't that right, Tweety?!?)

That's okay, I KNOW WHO I AM!?
