SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University ABSN 2021-2022

Published

Hi everyone,

I've started this thread so we can discuss and share our experiences applying to SUNY's ABSN program for 2021. Being that the application period just opened, I’m sure we can all benefit from sharing information in regards to the process.

Best of luck to those applying!

I submitted mid January

my status already changed to “screening complete”

Congratulations! Good luck to you too!

I wonder if this means it says "file forwarded to program for review" if they've already rejected you.

I don't think so. I think they just do them in batches, and we are the unlucky ones who seem to be later in the order. We shall see.

Hey, the ones that got accepted do you mind sharing your scores and GPA and like science grades and if you had any volunteer experience? Please and thank you

Hey my overall GPA when applying was 3.43 (SBU Health Science Major). My prereq GPA was a 3.62 (science GPA 3.5). My ATI TEAS score was an overall 90% , reading score of 89.4%, Math 96.9%, Science 89.4%. English 79.2%. I’ve only ever volunteered during high school for a Summer in a nursing home,  few months on a political campaign and in my church and at a homeless feeding program. Honestly I didn’t have crazy medical experience like a lot of people however my extracurricular activity at SBU and my personal essay were what I feel like what made me a strong candidate. I have a decent amount of leadership experience on campus (including president of a club). Also show that you are passionate about something and relate it to nursing if you get an interview. A lot of people think medical experience is the golden ticket in, but I feel like they want well rounded individuals who have a drive for something. Be yourself, and tell them why you want it, be genuine. Tell stories that show examples and demonstrate those qualities. Most importantly breathe! I hope this helped.

also I applied end of January and it said under review for a very long time and then said screening complete in early March. I got a call for the interview a day before it happened (so be prepared!) and good luck!

Mine says screening complete and I’m crossing my fingers for an interview

good luck! when did your status change from file forwarded to program for review?

I submitted my application back in November, and my application has been on "Forward to program review" for the past 2 months :') It sounds like people are already getting interview/acceptances from March (Congrats everyone), so I'm guessing my chances are not very high.

I'm in the same boat...however, I called admissions this morning and spoke to someone who said that the applications actually aren't processed in the order in which they were received. Also, he said that the status should change when they are reviewing it. So I guess there is still some hope for us who got our applications in earlier and haven't heard back

That's really weird since the application itself stated that early applications are encouraged. If applications are not being reviewed in the a certain order, why encourage people to apply early. Hopefully we still have a chance, this is all so discouraging! -Virtual hug-

Just got called for an interview this Wednesday!!

Mine still says under program review, not sure what to make of it cause I see people already got called today

I wasn't called but I was emailed today for an interview this week. I applied in September, I didn't have amazing grades at all, but I did have good TEAS scores and 1.5 years of experience in the medical field. I was honestly surprised when they contacted me for an interview.

For those who've completed their interview, was there any essay question  I know pre-COVID they used to give out essay and math questions. Has this changed since its through virtual interviews now?

Good luck to everyone!
