Hi everyone,

I haven't seen any thread for the SUNY Downstate ABSN program for the Fall 2024 start so I thought so here's one for anyone applying/attending/etc!

Congrats! I hope I get an email from admission soooon.

For interviews I would advise everyone to be open + show your personality. We are told not to share interview questions, but think of some common ones such as why you want to do nursing, and what drew you into downstate. Don't be shy to talk, and show who you are. Your application and resume are just words, your interview brings the real you. Good luck everyone.

We only had classes on Tuesdays and 1 Thursday night.

In an earlier post you mentioned the classes being online. Are there any in-person classes at all? And how much time are you spending on class and studying on average in a week?

Theirs is no in person classes at all. We only meet once a week for sim labs for the first 6 weeks. Afterwards that lab  day will be used as a clinical day for foundations clinical. Be warn there is a lot of assignments, especially on ATI. Also since I forgot to mention it, expect books each semester to be 1k??. There's no way around it because they use it for homework assignments as well. As for other cost, stethoscope and graduation cost are something you would have to pay for. There is a parking lot of 14/ day.

I can't exactly recall how much hours I spent. Overall the first semester of nursing school for me was better than my undergrad experiences getting pre reqs. I think the professors make or break the experience. Last cohort they had different professors so they may not had the same experience as me, and incoming cohort may have different staff members as well. I also think that the way they plan the lectures for me felt very doable, I enjoyed pharm and patho althought it was def challenging. I usually spent mornings and homework and would go out nights for dinner and catch up with friends to keep me sane.

Hey guys, I had a question. So, I'm going to take microbio in the Spring and that's the only prereq that I was missing when I sent in my application. Do you guys know if that will affect the speed of application process? Like would I only get an email saying I do have an interview or not after I get a grade for microbio?

I went to three of the information sessions and they said they can still accept you even though you have a semester of courses to do.

Has anyone applied towards the end of January and still waiting to hear back?

I sent mine on the 31st and I'm still waiting.

What does your status say? Mine has been on "faculty screener assigned" for a while now.

Same thing for me. It's been like that for some time now since like a few days after I sent it in. It's giving me anxiety~

I hope we hear something soon! It seems like no one here has heard anything for a while now, maybe because they extended the deadline.

Ohhh that makes sense. I'm wondering if we had sent it earlier, would we have gotten a reply sooner.
