Hi Tweety and Ado

Dianah I use food to hid my cat's thyroid medication too

Stars I think a day of doing nothing would be a good break for you

Was a busy day yesterday. Did get out in the morning for bird watching but didn't see much

Then drove to the station and caught the train into the city for the architectural tour for our 2nd date.  It was a very interesting tour, and we both had a good time although we walked an awful lot.  Afterwards we had lunch before heading home.  He's busy the next 3 weekends so a third date probably won't happen until closer to the end of July

Rest of the day was pretty quiet, stopped at the store but mostly just rested

Today I won't be at church, I'll do the cooking in the morning then later attend an event with the over 50 group.  Rest of the day should be pretty quiet

Will be considerably cooler today, only in the lower 70s

Good morning!

Joe, glad you had a nice time.

Dianah, I've been reading about "The Chosen" being a megahit taken the US by storm. Apparently it's the most successful donor funded project of all time.  (Also was a mini-stink when a crew member was spotted with a Pride flag on a piece of equipment.  Yawn).  Sounds like a good show with good character development.

Best friend got tickets to one of the museums that's having some new exhibit.  The tickets were free from the library.

I walked the dog last night around 9pm and the humidity was thick and hot.  Right now it's not evening 8:00AM and the "feels like" is 90 outside.  We've definitely reach the hot and much portion of Summer.

Good morning!

Stars, after doing absolutely nothing productive yesterday, I agree with Joe it's a great break. I just chilled in the living room watching this, that, and another movie to relax.

Joe, glad you had a good time.

Tweety, glad I'm not where you are! It's been hitting the 90s around early afternoon here without the humidity, and I feel like I'm melting.

I took the lazy way out this weekend, ordered groceries to be delivered. Grocery shopping is one of the chores I hate so much I'm willing to pay Giant's $7.95 delivery fee (although I usually go for the bigger delivery window that discounts the fee). So that's what I'm waiting for currently, then going to meet my dad for our weekly dinner. Also dealing with the aftermath of yesterday's storms. No damage other than my one cat who is absolutely terrified of just the slightest rumble of thunder who needs constant closeness when he deems it safe to come out from under the sofa. I currently have 24 pounds of cat crushing my lap. He could afford to lose a few pounds, but he's also very long and very tall, so he'd still be a big boy at his ideal weight and still be a lap crusher.

Annie, that was such a sweet photo of Dory, thank you for sharing.

We did an architectural boat tour in Chicago once. Well, actually, I took it and liked it so much that dh and I went on another. There was a little difference between the two. I've done the hop on/hop off tour a couple of times, too. The guides seem to all be aspiring comedians, which adds to the fun.

Temps here remain mild, around 70, and with occasional showers, making it humid. I see the reports of the extreme weather in a good deal of the rest of the country, and should be grateful with what we have.

I spent some time at the library yesterday, at a table by the Master Gardeners. The library was having a plant exchange, and we were there to answer gardening questions. A couple of visitors got a little testy about who was going to adopt a certain plant. It good that I rode my bike because I otherwise might have adopted some new plants. When I got home I tried to do some weeding but my back was quite sore, so I took some tylenol and ibuprofen and promptly fell asleep. Today is better.

This will be our first year with these dogs and fireworks. I'm curious about their reactions. We do have some calming chews to give them, if needed.

Since the den is always so cold, Nannie is dressed in a tan turtleneck jersey, tan pants, tan shoes and a maroon and tan and black patterned jacket. She is sooo pleased with her outfit! She won't be going outside at all so I don't mind dressing her like it is cool, Fall-like weather, if it makes her happy.

I hope this is not an ear worm, but as I was describing Nannie's outfit, all I could hear in my head, was this novelty song by Dodie Somebody: "He's wearing tan shoes and pink shoelaces, a polka dot hat, and man oh man, tan shoes with pink shoelaces, and a big panama with a purple hat band."

I have to kinda figure out how to partially unwrap the ace bandage that is up on Nannie's hand, and straighten it out; it is twisted and parts of her knuckles are (PUFFY!) and sticking out between the layers. Proof positive that she has been fiddling with it!

I am actually going to do a very quick trip to the convenience store; I must be crazy, but it is an unavoidable trip; I gotta have MILK! I'll let you know if I melt after the trip into the TROPICS!

Later, yez guyz!

Yeh, so it's 94 degrees and the air is absolutely STILL, nary a breeze anywhere. Calm before the storm? I dunno.

We are watching the X-Games. First the 'women' (13,  14, and 15 years old) on skateboards, and now men on bicycles letting go, stretching out before landing, somersaulting, flipping, and go-for-broke crazy tricks. Fascinating.

Stepson and I did one of the architecture tours on a boat in Chicago back when he lived there and I visited. It was interesting and fun.

Niece says stepson checked himself into a psych hospital in Indianapolis. Maybe that's good? Thursday was his 40th birthday.

It is oppressively hot and humid here. Hubs mowed late yesterday and has been doing things on the boat in the mornings and evenings. We went to church this morning and it was a different and fun service.

The local fireworks show was Friday night. We thought about going but in the end didn't. It was the first time in years that we haven't had dogs to worry about.

I did check out the farmers market yesterday morning. There were only 4 vendors. I bought a little something from all of them and bought some locally processed beef from a business around the corner.

I read part of the afternoon (while dh napped), after lunch, and then watched the Olympic trials -- the end of the track and field events, and then the women's gymnastics.  It was all exciting -- such talent!

I made a spaghetti sauce, which we had tonight over low-carb pasta that was, ALL, actually very good!

10-12 Roma tomatoes (I halved them), one white onion (I cut it into eight pieces), one garlic (not one clove, one whole garlic -- cloves peeled and separated).  I put all the above into a plastic bag and added 1-2 Tbsp olive oil, and one tsp each oregano, basil, parsley, S & P (you can add any favorite herbs).  Shook the bag real good to mix it all, then poured them onto a foil-lined baking sheet.  Roasted it all at 425 degrees X 45 min.  Then blended the lot.  Actually, I pureed it.  I sauteed some white mushrooms in butter, and we had the pasta with the pureed sauce, mushrooms, and parmesan on top (I added some dried parsley too).  Dh doesn't usually care for tomato-based pasta sauces, but he LOVED this one.  It was not overwhelmingly garlicky or onion-y (I think the roasting subdues the strong flavors), just nice subtle flavors.  We WILL have this again!

I washed out some of my dapper day dresses, they are drying now.

Just trying to stay out of the hot weather outside (it was 101 today).

Have a good evening!

That sauce sounds really good. Yes, I wondered about all the garlic. Perhaps roasting does mellow the flavor. I bought Roma tomatoes at the farmers market yesterday but not enough (I bought all they had left) to make spaghetti sauce. We used 2-3 of them today just to eat, lacking any other tomatoes. My plants had blossoms the other day, so *eventually* we will have tomatoes!
