Hey guys! I know that we're still a few months from the application opening, but I'm so excited I can't wait!

I'd love to hear from any of the previous years' externs and anyone planning on applying this summer.

Hello everyone! I plan on applying to ALL the internships that Mayo offers, including the ones in Rochester/Mankato-MN, Wisconsin, and Arizona. I am currently an LPN at a local community college in MN but will graduate with my ADN next December. If I don't make it in this summer, I plan to apply again while in my online BSN program, since I won't graduate with my BSN until May 2019. Some advice, is to read all the other postings on Mayo's Summer III internship from previous years. They offer some good advice =) Good luck to everyone!

I will be applying too! This is my dream internship :laugh: I'm from Illinois! I have read all the threads from past years, tracked down people who have done the externship before through LinkedIn, and read articles about it- It sounds insanely competitive, but amazing! I have a decent resume/high GPA/good essays, but no healthcare experience, which I think might put me out of the running :cry:

Don't worry. If you don't get in, you can just work there when you get your RN. They're always expanding like crazy and take any warm body. I used to work at Mayo. :yes:

Hey guys!

I'm a junior in the BSN program at UNCG in North Carolina. I've worked for two years as an LPN and about two as an EMT. I have a passion for critical care and was so excited to learn about this externship at the top ranked hospital in the nation. I am curious to know how people are chosen. I incorporated the two prompts into two pages to keep it short and sweet. Good luck to everyone!

Hi guys!

Just found this post and I'm also applying. I'm from Arizona and attend Arizona State University! I'll probably apply to the Phoenix Mayo program too, but would much rather do this one if given the opportunity! My essays are around 1.5 pages each. I have no experience in healthcare besides clinical experiences. I don't think I'm anywhere close to competitive enough for this externship, but it doesn't hurt to give it a shot! Can't get in if you don't at least try is my mindset. Good luck to you all :)

Hey Smiles,

I was an extern last year, do not worry about GPA, your essays are equally if not more important because that is a better measure for how you are as a nurse. They don't need to be a million pages long, just as long as they ring true to who you are! I didn't have much medical experience when I got my letter and my nursing GPA was off to a not so hot start. The deadline has finally approached! I don't know about you guys, but I'm glad the application is finally closing so that we can know either way the decision! Has anyone contacted Mayo about a timeline for finding out a decision?

Nope, but ive read from previous summers that we usually have around a month of waiting for final decisions.

Let the wait begin! From reading previous Summer III threads, it seems as though they may ask for transcripts and preferences within the next few weeks. Usually everyone gets a decision via email by mid February! :) I'm so so nervous! At least we know there's nothing we can do now (Except for read the old Summer III threads over and over again....lol)

If anyone receives any emails from Mayo, comment them on this post! Maybe we can ease eachothers nerves by waiting together :) What state is everyone from? I'm from IL!
