Summer Job or not? Advice needed!

I really need to gain some experience in the medical field and I really need to brush up on basic NA skills so I was hoping to work at a hospital this summer. The problem is that I do not want to work while I'm in school, so I don't want to start a job and then quit 2 months later because that would leave a bad impression. I was hoping that I could maybe volunteer, but I've heard that hospitals won't allow you to volunteer as a CNA. Does anyone have any advice? Do you think someone would hire me if I am honest about only working in the summer? Eventually I do want to work some where to get my "foot in the door" before I graduate, so this could be a start. Does that make sense? Any advice is appreciated!

...I mean...unless they have a short-term opening where someone is off sicek, on maternity leave, etc, I don't know whether they will want to mess with you working for only 2 months. You couldn't even be prn/contingent during school, and work maybe a couple of weekend days a month? I don't know what you'll get as far as responses, but I think honesty is the best policy as far as going in to an interview. I think it might be burning bridges to get a job and then quit 2 months later, becaue the hospital will be able to see that you did that and probably won't be too interested in giving you an RN job in the future. I don't know though. Good Luck!

A lot of hospitals have summer internships (paid) specifically for nursing students. They usually require you to be a cna, cpr, and all of that. The programs here last b/t 6-10 weeks during the summer. Check into your local hospitals and see if they offer anything like that.

Good Luck!!

I got a job @ a hospital that is only on the weekends, BUT you can pick up extra shifts during the summer & then when school starts back you are only obligated on the weekends ... Good deal for me.
