Okay I have searched far and wide to find a topic relating to this but have only found older ones... I mean come on guys the world isn't really going to end December 2012. So here's to the 2012 application cycle!
I have a ton of questions for those who are applying and those who have applied and those who are in the program. Any and all input will be much appreciated. Also just so you know, I will be attending the October 1st open house.
If I were to describe myself, I would say grade-wise I am not the strongest candidate for JHU's nursing program as it is considered top in the nation. HOWEVER I have great experience and recommendations to cancel that out. I am also trying really really hard to make those essays seem great but only 300 words?
So to anyone reading this post, what do you think I can do to make myself a stronger applicant?
Relating to specifically JHU, I have heard a million different things about their program. From "it really sucks and is not worth it" to "best program EVER". JHU is supposed to be a school that is the leader in research and also has a global perspective. Can anyone else tell me what is so special about JHU's nursing program? What is your personal experience with it?
As far as location and campus, I think it doesn't matter as long as the educational program is incredible.
p.s. You are awesome for reading my novel. There have been many a times where I skipped over long posts.
Good luck to those with interviews. I can't even imagine how stressful those are. I cannot wait to hear back but I applied for regular decision so I won't hold my breath. It definitely is going to be some time before I hear from JHU. How do people currently interviewing feel they are going? I've read several responses and I can tell they are detailed questions.
Wow there are so many people applying for the BSN/MSN program! I'm not an early decision applicant so I won't find out until February... sadly. But I'm flying out to Baltimore (I'm a SoCal resident) for an interview in December! I can't remember if it was this thread or previous threads... but is anyone applying for the pediatric program?
Also, does anyone know if JHU gives financial aid? I know they tell us to apply nonetheless but since the school is so expensive, it'd be nice to know that we'd be getting some sort of help paying for it. >
Good luck to all you early decision applicants with your interviews if you haven't had them already! A lot of people in this thread sound very qualified~ I know JHU doesn't require GRE scores unless you're applying for the joint programs but did anyone submit them anyway?
So many Californians! I know it is challenging to get into a school in California. I took the GRE *ahem* many years ago so its expired and thought about taking it when I was going to apply to the Yale program but decided against applying to that program.
I'm going to apply for financial aid but I don't expect much at all. I did read that you can qualify for up to $12k in stafford loans per year. I may go that route, especially if they raise the tuition.
I'm from SoCal as well! But I only applied to the ABSN portion. Time is flying by....less than a month till we find out (those who applied early decision). Just curious what parts of Cali, are you from? I'm from the South Bay area (in Los Angeles County). Definitely different from Baltimore!
Do you know how much they'd raise tuition by? (How much would the new tuition be? >
Although, the Stafford Loan will probably be helpful!
jiwonkim89, I'm from the Los Angeles area myself! I haven't been to Baltimore yet, but I'll be exploring the area a bit when I go for my interview in three weeks :)
I'm hoping they take into consideration all my pre-req classes and grad classes for the merit scholarship. I did not do too well in undergrad, but for sure made that up later on in life.
I'm also from the Los Angeles area. If anyone wants to get together and discuss applications and such, I'm available. It's hard enough going through this process alone and usually family and friends don't understand all the work it requires.
Sadly, I don't think my GPA meets the minimum requirement for the merit scholarship in that case. I'm really hoping that they'll have generous financial aid packages (assuming I am accepted into the program)! As someone else mentioned, I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst >
I just googled nursing interview at JHU and this forum came up! This is great! I just called and scheduled an interview for December 7th. I was kind of caught off guard because I didn't realize they interviewed everyone, there is not much about that on the website. I wonder now if I should have asked for an earlier time but with Tday, I thought I should wait until the second week of December. I live out of the country so it is a phone interview for me. I am doing regular decision not early. I am a bit nervous about JHU in general but also excited. I also applied to a school in CA. I am an "older" student going for BS to MSN. I have lived in Mexico the last 6 years and the global health aspect of JHU appeals to me. I will keep checking back if anyone has anything more to add about the interview. I will also post but it will be 2 weeks before I do mine.
Good Luck everyone!

Oh and I just realized that the title of this thread is Summer. Is anyone doing Fall? I need 1 class to take over the summer (AP2) so I'm applying for Fall.
