Summer classes?!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I think i have made up my mind about the classes I want to take this summer. A&P 1 and im not sure if I want to take another class with is or not. Summer semester at my college is about 10weeks. I attempted A&P spring semester but had to withdraw because I was failing. I realized I wasn't studying as much as I should and also the instructor wasn't very helpful she would read the power points and not explain much about it. The book says one thing but she would narrow it down into something that didn't make sense. So enough making excuses do you guys think its best for me to take it by itself or take with an eng? I work as a hha and have 2 kids with a very supporting and sometimes understanding husband. Any suggestions are appreciated

One thing to think about, nursing school is A LOT like your old class. There are plenty of times where there are things to know that weren't taught in class, or you have to decipher inconsistencies between one book and another, the power points, and what the instructor actually said. There is more to read than any one person can ACTUALLY read.

Also, remember that summer A&P will be faster paced than spring. You will need to keep up. If spring was tough, DO NOT take it with something else. Don't risk it. Nursing school requires very good grades in the sciences, as in mostly As, maybe a B or two.

If you can buckle down, really study, and make it work, go for it. Don't do it unless you're ready to do that, otherwise, you will kill your chances at getting into nursing school.

Good luck!

Good day, mrsvickerie2:

1. Read RunBabyRun carefully; it is full of sound advice.

2. As you were taking the AP1 class you dropped, where you participating in class? Where you asking questions in class? Did you make it a point to physically meet with your professor to go over tests / quizzes, and ask for help? Did you go to your tutoring / learning center? If you answered "no" more than once, then I recommend you run through why the "no's" and try not to be too defensive on the answers.

I've found https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/how-get-any-846733.html to be helpful for every class I've taken. In terms of study time allotment, I've found that if you treat science with a lab class the equivalent of two three credit classes (rather than one four credit class), you'll be better off. That means treating the lecture as one class, and the lab as the other class. If you use the "two" hour minimum per credit hour, you then end up with budgeting a minimum of 12 hours per week study time vs. 8 ("minimum").

Thank you.

You need to preform well to be accepted into the nursing program -- that being said since you we not preforming well in A&P and dropped prior to this term.. 2nd that with the fact that summer term is very accelerated.. if it were me I would only take A&P and concentrate on doing well in it.

Thank you guys. I do realize that my problem was the studying this summer semester will definately be slightly easier for me I will be able to focus a lot more. I will definately take it by itself and ace the class

THIS. Not to mention there are so many topics that get narrated and you have to teach yourself.

Hey, I too am taking A/P this summer (10 wks also), I am taking it with a developmental math class (1cr.) I chose to do it this way because I think it'll benefit me. I'll take A/P II this fall along with other classes. I have taken ENG this past fall and it wasn't really difficult, just a lot of writing (as expected). To be honest with you, believe that I could've taken it online. I don't struggle with writing at all. Hope this helped. Good luck, it can be done.

I have two bio classes, a bio lab and a chem class this summer. I cut back hours at work to study....I had to, one of the science classes I'm taking I got a D in when I worked too much. But then I will get credit for the classes but will have to retake the chem class when I transfer to denver. That's ok, I will have background. Now between semesters I am studying....a and p, meds, terminology, disease, etc. cause if I don't I will have to review even more. BUT I can also say I started two books of....pleasure reading! I haven't read something other than a textbook seems like forever

For me 101 was much harder than 102 and even though I hold high A's in both A&P classes, I am firmly convinced that I would NOT have done as well in an accelerated class like summer can be. If you do take it, take it by it's self, not with a class that requires a lot of filler time like an English class. So much time is dedicated to writing papers when you really need to be studying the physiology of the systems, memorizing the chemistry, and knowing how cells work. I have two kids, and a hubby that's gone a lot. Regardless of what you plan to do, good luck!
