Suggestions for pre-studying AP2 and Micro for summer term

Published

Hey everyone!

I am taking AP2 and Micro this summer, AP2 the first five week term, which begins at the end of May and Micro the second, which begins in July. After I take my final for AP1 next Wednesday, I will have about 3 weeks off and want to prepare for the summer terms. Does anyone have any suggestions what I should review or study before summer terms are here?

I also am going to prepare during this break for my NLN exam, read up on physics, chemistry and word roots, besides reviewing math. Any suggestions for this as well? That test will be in July.

I see nothing but books in my future

Why dont you get your Lab book for A&P 2 and start filling out the first couple chapters. My summer A&P2 starts May 11 and thats what Im doing.

A&P2 in my opinion is no where near as hard as 1 so I wouldn't stress about that class. As for micro, I would start looking at the different antibiotics and what they treat, there is alot to memorize there and it will save you some from some stress.

Thank you both Anne's!!

I was in the school's bookstore a few days ago to get my books but they told me I wouldn't have a lab for AP2?? Not sure about that, and I need to follow up on it.

I do have my Micro and lab book, so I'm going to follow your suggestions and learn the antibiotics, thanks for the suggestion!

You should have a lab for 2, you'll be doing blood testing and urinalysis at least.

You could get a basic A&P book such as "Anatomy and Physiology Demystified" and learn the basics of all the systems you will be learning. Then during lecture you will be able to focus on learning the details.

What we had learned in AP1 will definitely come back to you during AP2.

Like it was said before, it's all about the details especially for lecture so you will need to know the anatomy of all the organs to learn the physiology to know what goes on with them, because teachers will not bother re-teaching anything from AP1

Specifically in AP2 I think you should study the kidney and the exchanges that happen in the nephron. That is a hard one to wrap your head around. Tip: it generally goes in order of molecular size.

Also, get to know about 50 basic hormones. Triggers, effects and where they come from.

Is there a way you can get a hold of the syllabus for each class in advance? If so, I would start reading the chapters that are on the syllabus because not all classes go through the book in chronological order.

If not, you can email the instructors and ask them what chapters they plan on covering the first couple of weeks.

Thank you everyone for some great suggestions. Since I will have to email my instructor anyway regarding AP2's lab book or lack of one, I will ask her for information on what I should pre-study for that first week.

I just got my new AP book.... the one I studied from in AP1 online is not the one they use in the classroom for AP2, and I gotta say, I am thrilled with it....it is so much easier to read and has very simplified explanations, the chapters are shorter and to the point...yay!!!! So I am not intimidated to study ahead in this one.

I did go out and buy Microbiology DeMystified, so I will read thru that in the next couple of weeks to get some familiarity with the subject. I'm hopeful for this course since my teacher got rave reviews on rate my professor....I think I may get through this summer without losing my mind!

BTW I am excited, I had my final today for AP1 I have an A for my final grade! not an easy task with an online course and pretty much non-existant teacher, now its time for a margarita!
