Suffolk County Community College LPN to RN bridge experience

Nursing Students School Programs

I was just wondering if anyone has been through SCCC LPN to RN bridge program? What was your experience like? Were you able to work, if so how many hours? What were the clinicals like? I was recently accepted into this program, so I am just curious as to what to expect in the upcoming months ?

Hi! I am currently in the program and will be graduating in May. It is an intense program but is doable. There's a lot of reading and extra assignments to do such as VSIMS (coursepoint program) and quizzes, practice, and proctored exams for ATI. I was able to keep my full time job (had an understanding boss) but for me to get an idea what the schedule was like, I looked at the past schedules to see what would work best for me. The schedules don't seem to change much year to year. I ended up working 32 hours a week the first semester and 34 hours a week this past semester. They do have weekend clinicals for some of the classes. The clinical rotation for the first semester was psych, it was ok ( im not really a psych person). The second semester will be pediatrics and Maternity together (Very intense but doable).

I wish you good luck! Hope this was helpful. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks so much for the detailed response! I'm sure I will have more questions as the year goes on. Good luck to you in your remaining semester of program. I can't to be where you are lol!

I'm so glad to stumble on this post. Thanks for the insight. I was wondering what the program is like.

Are you doing the LPN-RN program at Grant or Ammerman?

Just wondering how the program is going. Are the tests basically from Ati or do the teachers make up the tests?

Specializes in L&D, ED, Lab.

I am in the Grant bridge program. It's going really well. The professors make the exams with a private question bank they have on ati. They tend to be a little trickier than the normal questions but still doable. Our first exam was Friday and the grades ranged from 70-100.

I plan on trying to get most of the prerequisites out of the way first. Then applying. I have a Bachelor's so lots of the basic courses should be fulfilled.

Hello Nurses. Sorry Didn’t see the comments posted before. I did the LPN-RN at the grant campus. As you can imagine it got really crazy with the Covid. We ended up doing remote clinicals which involved lots of extra reading assignments, vsims and so forth. We were behind with our exams because they had to be proctored from home so our exams were pretty much back to back. The teachers get together and make up the exams. I used the tutor, she is very helpful. Yes if you can take as much prerequisites as you can. I had to take extra classes while doing the nursing and working pretty much full time while juggling family life (have two children and thank goodness a very supportive husband) but I made it! So can you guys. I wish you all the best and feel free to ask any questions that you may have. I have more free time now and can get back to you faster. Wish you guys all the best!

Today I received something from the admissions department via e-mail. It was titled "Mandatory Professional Licensure Disclosure" .. did anyone else receive this?

Tiffany - I received the same thing. I think it's just stating what the requirements for licensure are for each state and that they are an accredited program.

Has anyone heard any thing from the nursing program? The wait is killing me ? .. OMG.
