Suffolk County Community College 2017 Applicants

Published

Starting the thread for those anxious applicants trying to get a read on this year's pool of candidates...

So who is willing to post what they've scored?

Here's mine:

A&P 1: A

A&P 2: B+

Eng 1: A

Eng 2: B+

Micro: ___

Psych: A

Stats: C- (blah!)

TEAS: 78

Not particularly found of the revision to the rubric.

So what are you holding???

Nope nothing yet. Although I did get something from Suffolk. During the summer I had a problem. I wanted to see if Bio 272(Microbio) could substitute the Bio 244 (General Microbio) requirement.

I asked my former professor, and she said that the majority of the content overlaps. She even helped me out by emailing the chair of nursing. Although I didn't have a copy of their direct correspondence, I did have a confirmation from my professor saying the chair of nursing agreed that a substitution was permissible. The chair of bio approved the substitution request, signed the paperwork, and everything was submitted to the dean.

The Dean's secretary called to say my request was denied. I was told that I was not matriculated, so substitutions cannot be approved, and "No substitutions allowed."

So I went to the dean's office. I was told I'd have to wait about 2 hours as she had meetings. I waited. When I met her, she had said she would not approve the substitution request because she did not know if the chair of nursing would approve the substitution. Meanwhile when I spoke to the secretary for the chair of nursing, she said, "It's a bio class, so you would have to ask the Bio department."

I told the dean that, and showed her the email I had. We went down to admissions, as they were telling me to go to the chairs. Basically I was going in circles. She said she would matriculate me and approve the request. When I asked her if she needed a letter or the substitution form from the chair of nursing, she said it was fine. Well this was back in mid August.

Today I got a receipt of the substitution form saying that the request was denied. Initially was accepted, but the check Mark was then crossed out. The denied line was checked off and highlighted. On top it says "Can't change grade after grad and no courses can be substituted." I'm a bit irritated because she said one thing yet denies it. Also I'm not requesting grade changes. Nothing in the request implies that.

So this possibly means that the grade I got might not be added to my rubric score. Every little point helped, and I would've loved 3 or whatever number of points it was. Now I'm getting anxious again.

My plan is to wait for the letter. What's done is done. If the chairs of bio and nursing are ok with the substitution, then why can't it be substituted? If I get accepted into the nursing program, I will have to figure out a day I can go to the chair of nursing and request a letter or have them fill out a new substitution form. Then apparently remind the dean of my situation. Gotta keep pressing on :(

Thank you! I hope so! Good luck to all :)

Not in the mail today. Not sure I can handle this wait anymore. Ughhhh

I keep checking this thread religiously waiting for someone to announce they got their letter! Dana, you got Wednesday's mail already? Or are you saying it wasn't delivered Tuesday?

I get informed delivery through usps, they send you a digital picture of everything that's coming in the mail that day in your email. It's always accurate and it's not in there today. Sighhhh

Ugh, hopefully tomorrow then!

I apply for both Grant and ammerman do you think both schools will send out the response at the same time?

I initially changed my address to my po box. USPS won't send the digital picture unless your license or whatever's address matches the address you want mail sent to it. I'll just wait.

Hi everyone! So I applied for the Spring 2018 program at Suffolk as well. I selected Grant as my first choice, when I called their yesterday she said two more weeks for mail out. I don't understand why their process is so antiquated. I also applied for the BSN program to Adelphi and was accepted but wanted a closer program. I hope to hear from suffolk soon so I can make my choice. Anyone else here going to have to choose between a community and a private school?

Here are my grades also, perfect for Adelphi but not so hot for Suffolk:

A&P 1 C

A&P2 B+

PSY 101 B+

PSY210 A

SO 11 B+

ENG 218 B

ENG 101 A

CO11 B+

PED A

PED A

SP 51 A

MAT 103 A

All I have left is nursing courses :/

Teas overall score 74.7 %

reading 80.9%

math 78.1 %

science 63.8 %

english 79.2 %

Overall rubric score: a disappointing 46.25% :(

The funny thing is that I am still trying to get into Suffolk, with an acceptance for Adelphi and with the part time program being a three year course, i would have my bachelors in the same time. Its so sad that Suffolk is so hard to get into, I really want to avoid this commute!

I asked this to the admissions rep yesterday and she said she didn't know what their procedure was.

It's total BS that they give such varied answers. I was told I'd get my letter by today. It's ridiculous because I need to know what I'm doing. They should just send an email whether or not you got accepted and then send all the other paperwork when it's ready. I really don't get why they have to torture us with this wait. I got my letter for the fall program in less time and there's like 4 times the amount of people being accepted for that program. They should be able to tell us WHEN to expect the letter at least.

As you can see from my post earlier I really need to know what I am doing also. Registration for classes for Adelphi is 11/6. I want my denial letter if I'm denied or vice versa before I can take the next step with Adelphi. The Grant admissions lady yesterday told me that the system for Suffolk is ridiculously old and can't compare to the private college enrollment process. Adelphi processed my admission, financial aid and scholarship all in the time I have waited for Suffolk. Torture as you put it, is the perfect terminology.
