Hi,
anyone out there applying for the fall 2018 program at Suffolk?
Hello future nurses!! Before I ask my question, good luck to everyone waiting for acceptance letters!!
I was wondering if anyone had any feedback. Here goes the story..
I was enrolled at Suffolk back in the early 2000's right after HS. I Left before completing my degree to pursue a career in finance which I pretty much hate now lol. I've decided to pursue a career in Nursing for all the obvious reasons. This is where I currently stand with completed courses from SCCC, in relation to the admission rubrics for the nursing program. All Courses were completed prior to 2004.
Freshman Comp: A
Intro to lit: A
Intro to Psy: A
Western Civ: B+
Statistics: F and W
A&P I - Not taken
A&P II - Not taken
BioMed Ethics: Not taken
Microbiology: Not taken
I'm not concerned for the classes I haven't taken yet. My concern is the F and W from stats. Does anyone know if I would be allowed to retake the class again to (hopefully) achieve an A, which would count as 4 points towards the rubric? Or, would I not be allowed because I attempted the course twice. (I really want to smack my nineteen year old self right now) Or maybe they would average it?
Also, would anyone know if my A's and B+ would be accepted even though they were taken over 10 years ago?
Any feedback or advice anyone could provide would be immensely helpful. Trying to navigate these programs as someone fourteen years out of school has been an adventure lol. Thanks all!
Hi! Good luck to you as well! So I'm not sure if you can take a class for a third time, but honestly I'm not sure if it's worth it if you can. I would focus more on getting a good teas score. Reason being the teas score is more important for getting accepted because it's 75% of the rubric points and if you retake a class, even if it's only the second time, they deduct 2 points for retaking on the rubric. For example, if you retook and got an A (4 points) they would give you 2 points on the rubric. Personally, I would just focus on getting in advanced or exemplary on the TEAS! Also I believe they take classes from any time with the exception of anatomy and physiology. They talk about this stuff at the nursing seminar meetings, you should definitely check out when the next ones are and go to one for more info, I hope this helps!
I think you can take stats again. I believe the only one you can't keep trying with is ap1 and ap2. I think you're allowed two tries and then that's it, for those two.
Do really good on the teas, like Shannon said. Good luck!
adding: ap 1 and 2 has to be taken within 10 years of applying, I think all the others you're good with
Yes I agree, I think only the sciences have to be within 10 years. The history, psychology are fine, my history was from 2005 and they counted it towards my rubric score ( I had a meeting with admissions.) Also everyone is 100 % where the TEAS score is the most heavily weighted. At the seminar in February she said the ATI Teas online had a $250.00 study package with 3 practice TEAS exams. I don't know anyone who has used it personally, but if I had to take the TEAS again, I would sign up for it. The exemplary score on a TEAS test is priceless. I got advanced so we'll see. Good luck !!
I bought the ATI TEAS Secrets book by Mometrix and their app, and got advanced overall, but was really hoping to get a higher individual score for Anatomy. The book and app were fine for everything else, but I really felt the questions on the test were more in-depth (for Anatomy specifically) than what they asked on the app or in the book. Looking back, I definitely would have paid for the practice tests from ATI just so I could see what the questions looked like from the source. Hope that helps! Good luck!
So I just called central admissions and they asked for my name and info, put me on hold, came back and said everything is in and in review. You should hear something in next couple of weeks. So I'm assuming once again nothing has been mailed out. It seems they are not only behind last year (most letters received by march 3) but even the year before.. (most letter received by march 10) so there's that.... such a frustrating process. Anyone hear anything different?

I think someone called last year and told them they need to know if they're accepted bc they applied other places too lol
