Stupid Things RN's Have Done!!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I know you all have heard some interesting things about what some of your co-Workers have Done...

Leave out Med. Errors... or Nurses Caught Taken their Patient Drugs... Think of the One's that are totally Outrageous...

For Example, and to get things started I have a Few...

-A nurse on my floor ran a Feeding Tube Supplement Thru an IV...

-Another Nurse.. Couldn't Find a Vein So instead of asking someone Else... They used his Dialysis Fistula for the IV... Then Ran a Bag of Heparin thru It..

It's Sad that some nurses Mess up on stuff like this... Hopefully they learn from their Mistakes...

(This Thread is Somewhat Similar to https://allnurses.com/forums/f8/scari...light=scariest)...

But the Thread is Several Years out dated... In fact The Thread was created When I graduated From High School in 2004... So Lets Here some New Stuff...

OK, here's one from this week. Code called in Med/Surg - nurse said pt is not breathing. Well he was breathing, just having a tonic/clonic seizure. Turns out he had Dilantin infusing and the pump was beeping. Pt's nurse was tired of the beeping pump so the solution was to turn off pump. Turning off pump=no Dilantin infusin=seizure=ticket to cat scan=ticket to ICU. That escapade resulted in me having to watch four ICU patients for one hour, (while one of my partners went to the code), who were all on vasoactive drips and created unsafe staffing conditions. All over an IV pump that was turned off :trout:

pt cracks head while stumbling during cocaine binge. admitting dx is concussion and cocaine intoxication. i take report "what's she doing on the monitor," nurse says she not ordered for telemetry. EVERYBODY on our floor is on the monitor, sometimes thats the only reason people are put on our floor (neuro step down) instead of somewhere more appropriate.

HELLO, cocaine intox...why wouldn't you just put them on anyway and contact the doc for the order...he probably just missed it....

well no she missed it, i hightailed it to look at the chart and she was indeed ordered for telemetry....duh

and the woman was all bloody and completely naked with her 12 yr old daughter standing at her bedside when i get into the room....so sad.

If you haven't completed the work for the BSN, then you are not a BSN and should not be representing yourself as such. I believe that's a violation of the TOS.
