Studying?

What amount of time would you say you spend studying per night per subject on average?

What subjects give you the hardest time and which are your easiest?

The only thing I can think of to tell you is to take short breaks - When you find yourself losing focus push away from the books for a lil' while -

Not too long mind you, just do something else for a short time - Then get back at it! -

It may be that you will just have to force yourself to focus on your work a bit also

bedpan gave you some good advice. I also found myself not being able to focus during the Spring semester. I hate it. In the fall I am so excited to get back, I do so well, but by the time Spring rolls around I would be miserable.

I am a total freak about schedules, so I found that the only thing that helps me is to schedule my study time. If I have it wrote down in a planner, I will do it. If I loose focus while I am in the library studying, I will take a 15 minute break and go to the cafeteria for a coffee break, or listen to my headphones out on the bench for awile.

Try this and see if it works. Medication should always be a last resort. If you are still having problems, talk to your physician. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes.

After class I get on the phone with my boyfriend and review notes to him. It helps to read out loud. He doesn't mind plus when he asks questions about things that he doesn't understand (he is in accounting) I have to explain to him and that reinforces my knowledge of the subject. He helped me so much with doages and calculations. Then of course I read and re-read chapters and notes, index cards.

Best advice is to stay on top of things and read the chapters before class so that you are not as lost in class. I wish us all luck in these classes.

Jen2, I like the idea of getting your studying out of the way right after class, I think I'll try that next semester.

I always have to go to a libary or someplace that dosn't have any distractions like my house with my computer, which is always on allnurses!!!!:lol2:

I study and do homework right after class. Instead of going home, I will go to the library and stay there at least 1.5 hours. This way I almost have everything done and the info. from lecture is still fresh. Also your professor is still usually around if you have any questions. I then come home and try to relax and get a good nights sleep. I will then get up early before class and review what I did the night before. This is on a daily basis, so when it comes time for the exam, it's just a review, and I don't have to cram.. When you dedicate yourself like this everyday, you already know what your weaknesses are, so when it comes time for the exam, I usually spend the weekend before the test studying what I feel is my weak points.

Wow Jen, that sounds like a great routine. I'm going to try that out this year. It's so simple- and no cramming or falling behind!

Thanks!

I live in the library during the semester! I tell them they need to give me my own personal table!!

Does anybody here actually LIKE studying? My daughters think it must be an "age thing" because now at 42, I LOVE studying. I get a kick at seeing how much I can actually learn. I read three chapters of Anatomy today and class hasn't even begun yet. I make note cards and study the review questions in the back of the chapters too. I consider it such a great privilege to get another chance at college. :-)

I wish my daughters would get a vision for their own education. Right now, I think they are secretly just biding their time until their knights in shining armor, future husbands, ride up to the doorstep. :-/

I enjoy practice questions. I read 3,500 NCLEX review questions before I started nursing school because I wanted to and it was fun. Plus it has helped me a lot with my test grades. I never get test anxiety because I look forward to answering the questions!

I LOVE studying too. I don't think it's an age thing, as I am only 26. Maybe just a maturing thing and the reason I am saying this is because when I was in college at 20 years old I wasn't in love with studying. I can see a huge difference between my grades now and then. I had a 3.33 and now I have a 4.0
