Study Regimen for NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

I see a lot of people posting that they prepared for the NCLEX exam by doing a set amount of practice questions a day, but no one has really provided a timeline.

I just graduated last week. I started UWORLD practice questions last week. I've been doing about 50-75 questions per day for about 5 days now. I didn't do so hot on my Exit HESI exam, but thankfully my average rounded up in the program so I still managed to pass. Now I'm dreading taking the NCLEX exam. I've never been a good test taker. I have always struggled in that area. I have very bad test anxiety.

My question for everyone is, whenever you studied for the NCLEX, how many weeks/months did you study/practice questions? Did you take days off or did you go 7 days a week with no breaks? I've seen some people did 100 questions a day. That's great and all, but was it for a couple weeks? Or was it for a couple months? That seems like overkill. Just doing the 75 questions a day is a lot to me because it takes me quite a while to thoroughly read the rationales and get a good grasp on the material.

Thank you!

I JUST passed my nclex on May 11th this last Thursday and I used UWORLD...I kind of went overboard though. I started UWORLD RIGHT AFTER I graduated and I would literally do 75-150 questions a day and I would take a day off every week to rest my mind. No matter how tired you are you have to consistently do those questions and READ the RATIONALES whether you get the them right OR wrong! I'm sure you've read that plenty of times already searching through these threads. Don't get so bent up on percentages just try to "understand" the rationales. Do questions everyday up until the day before your exam. The day before your exam just review and relax.

Hope this helps!

That does help! Thank you, and congratulations!!

I'm waiting to receive my ATT # so that I can schedule my test. I'm using Uworld. I do 50-100 questions a day (there's one day a week where I only do 25 questions). I read every single rationale, whether I got the question right or wrong. I might start adding more questions in per day so that I have time to use a few other resources before my test (who knows when that will even be..I've heard my state is slow on getting our ATTs back to us).

I use tutor mode so that I can read rationales as soon as I'm done answering the question. I also bought the package that has 2 self tests. I plan on taking them both after I finish all of the questions.

The other resources I'm going to use if I still have time after Uworld are NCLEX-RN Mastery (it's an app for $30...it never expires either) and maybe some Kaplan Q-bank, Lippincott, or La Charity.

I almost exactly 2 weeks from taking my test. I started U World on 4/28. I got done with nursing classes in early April but didn't officially graduate till 5/5 so I have been prepping for some time. But since I scheduled me test last week, I have been doing 4+ hours/day. I just finished all of the U World questions and now I am going back through and re-doing the incorrect questions. Doing NCLEX mastery for extra fundamental practice and reading LaCharity prioritization book. I break up my studying hours as well because after awhile you get cross eyed look at the screen for so long.

So to answer your question, I will have a little over 3 weeks to study altogether from the time I scheduled my test to the time I take it. Hoping that's enough since I did NCLEX questions throughout my program on my own time.

Thank you! That does help! When you say you studied 4+ hours a day. Were you accomplishing a certain number of questions a day? Acid you read the rationales as soon as you answered the question or did you read the rationales after you finished all of the questions?

before I scheduled I was just trying to do 50 questions/day, after that I tried to finish a subject area each day so I could get to doing the rationales. Now I am redoing 50-100 incorrect questions a day. I did not read the rationales until after doing all the questions. Seeing them as I was taking the test made me start questioning myself and I did worse so I turned that function off.

Thank you! I have noticed I do better when I read the rationales after I submit my exams also. It's as though I psych myself out when I know that I'm getting questions wrong and I start to second guess my answers.
