OK --some of you started classes this week...how was it?

For those that have not started, what are you doing to get ready?

I am cleaning closets and trying to get the house in order, making room on my bookshelves for those 45 pounds of books (they bend the higher shelves, I had to put them on the bottom), I cut 400 index cards in half for flash cards...(I like small flash cards), saying goodbye to friends and family for the next two years (just kidding)...what about you?

I feel like I have gone back to being 15, not 45! :roll

I start school August 19th, so I have one week of vacation left. I plan to get my books on Monday--maybe getting my books will motivate me to clean out my closet. :D I never thought of it 'till you guys mentioned it.

Great idea for a post, SusanRN2004!

Susan, could you come to my house and get me organzied also? that sounds great. What I've been doing beside working and taking care of the kids is reading for my CPR which is Monday the 12th and I've been writing my website reviews for my psych class. I have 12/12 written. I still have 3 - 2page reports to write and if I want extra credit I can do up to 12 more website reviews if I get time.

I do have most of my books, but found out I need two more plus a stethsoscope, tape measure, pen light and something else I don't remember off hand. I did get an orientation because I am not taking the first clinical class until January but will have a lab so I guess that is why I need the stethsocope now.

I like the idea of cutting the index cards in half. I could not find index cards today at the store, but got some folders, paper and notebooks. I don't have everything organzied yet though.

Trying to get the CPR reading done and have 6 chapters left to read before Monday. Any suggestions for this CPR? Does it help getting all the reading done before class? It said in the instructions to read before coming.

Well Good luck!!

To the post above, I did "not" get an orientation.

Thanks

Deb, That's great to have all that work done ahead of time! I am an index card junky! I am going to try something different...as I read the chapters I will make up questions on general things on white cards and questions on things I know we will need on colored ones...may try to just do that instead of taking notes on chapters. (just take notes in class)

Did you know if you make a mistake on a post you can hit the edit button at the bottom of that post and make corrections? You can only do that on your own posts--:)

I am not so organized...just trying to catch up on all the things I let go while in school last year.

I hope everyone has time to check in here once in a while after school starts.

I admire you for doing school/job/ and kids at the same time, makes me feel lazy... take care of yourself, Susan

The pre-recs scared me too!! But I think they prepare you for this level of scared. I keep telling my self that I personally know 20 nurses...it is possible! And its an excited type of scared, I wouldn't trade it for anything...I have waited 35 years for this!

I am doing my aerobics. When your as big as I am you need to get yourself in shape! I am cleaning like a mad person. It must be pent up energy ro something. I have hardly moved all summer and then the past two weeks I seem to be on a super high. Its amazing. I am looking forward to getting started. I am a little worried about the money but other than that I am all set. I just wish my student loans would pay sooner than they do. I also have to hoard the money that is left over because I have no financing for the summer semester. Oh well I will get through. Not too much longer now. my first class is Sept 3.

Well, I'm pretty much doing the same things you all are doing. Cleaning house, trying to get organized and things like that. I've purchased my books, uniforms, shoes, stockings and all the other misc. school supplies ... paper, index cards, folders, highlighters, pens, pencils, etc., etc. When I look at my books I feel a little overwhelmed ... thinking like "what did I get myself into?". but overall I'm feeling very confident and proud of myself for coming this far and for striving not only to better myself but to fulfill my dream of becoming an RN.

I am buying school supplies...notebooks, etc. Yeah it does feel like I'm 15, not 44. Subscribing to tons of nursing journals, going to all the nursing sites and basically trying to absorb all the nursing I can.

Morning SusanRN :)

I haven't yet started.....will on Sept. 3rd.

As for what I am doing.....I am FREAKING out because I STILL don't have a book list :(

And, I am TRYING to prepare my children for mom heading to school the same day they do. Getting a lot of resistance, since I have been a stay-at-home most of their lives.

Also, doing a lot of cleaning and sorting through stuff.

I am trying to get in some relaxation time.......laying by the pool, and just vegging at night.

AND.........heading to Bristol, TN on the 21rst for NASCAR under the lights!!!!!!

Anxiety attacks......well, I haven't had one of those yet, but I am oneof those unfortunate people who gets more done when the pressure is on.

I have been reviewing dosage/calculations book. So far no luck at all trying to figure out how to mix a solution. I get the NSS and ensure feedings etc...but I am totally stuck as to how to prepare 1 liter of a 2.5% boric acid solution from boric acid crystals, or prepare 1000ml of a 1% formaldehyde sloution from a 50% solution???? Can anyone help????? Of sourse the IVPB questions are a little over my head at this point.

It;s true! what you don't use, ya lose!

I guess that I will be expecting some problem with the fact that I just remembered last week to send in my clearance forms (CPS, and state police) hope they get there quickly cuz I have clinical the 2nd day of class (8/28)

Other than all that, still enjoying summer....??
