How can I improve?

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hi all,

I am hoping to start applying for CRNA school next year (hopefully Fall '10). I want to start preparing myself so that I can be a competitive candidate. Pls. look at my stats and let me know what else I need to do.

1. I have my RN, BSN

2. Undergrad GPA of 3.53 (with a C in anatomy - my only C)

3. I have my BLS, ACLS. PLAN TO GET PALS AND CCRN (next year)

4. I will have 1 year by time of applying (Fall '10). Total of 2 before program starts in Fall '11.

5. I am co-chair in the patient's satisfaction committe.

6. Plan to shadow a CRNA/get a mentor.

7. Plan to do charge nurse/preceptor (I am only 6 months into a med/surg ICU at Cedar Sinai, LA - so this will be in July '10).

8. Plan to do volunteer work

9. Plan to take a biochem course & physics June '10. I have heard/read retaking undergrad class is not worth it, but rather take a grad class.

10. ALL my FINANCES are taken care of.

I am terrible at standardized tests, so I plan to apply to schools that do not require GRE.

So...what else do I need to do to make myself competitive. Any suggestions are welcome. I am truly looking forward to CRNA school with all the mental drainage, physical exhaustion, studying, tests, early mornings and anything CRNA has to offer.

Thanks.

Look at the admissions requirements for the programs you are interested in. Some will not accept a C in anatomy and you will need to repeat that.

I can't speak from experience here, however, this link has some very useful tips!
