GPA a little low...Help:(

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Graduate from Philippines, Just got my transcript translation and GPA is 2.7. Been a nurse for 10 yrs & worked in several countries and presently working in ICU. With this number, admission office probably would not even look at my application; Presently reviewing for GRE and completing sciences that have expired since I graduated BSN 10 yrs ago. I was not below average student back in Philippines but these translation is getting me worried. Really want to get in the program... Any ideas anyone????:crying2:

It's probably too late to get your GPA up to a 3.5, all you can do now is take grad level patho, pharm, bio, chem and get ALL As. Take the GREs, shadow and have a good reason as to why your GPA was so low

Keep your chin up and talk to a few people "in the know"...let us know what happens:nurse:

kierontye : I, too, had my BSN in the Philippines. Who evaluated your transcript? I had mine evaluated by WES. It was waaaaaay too low than What I thought it should be. But at least i got just a mark above the 3.0 required by most schools. When are you planning to apply to schools? where are you from, if you don't mind me asking? Im in california. One school told me to retake some science classes to boost up my GPA. I propbably will do that but I am torn between taking undergrad or grad level courses. I still have to look around. Did you take the TOEFL yet? Let's keep in touch!

Does anybody out there know any online grad level science classes?? Thanks

Definitely taking grad classes will help!

I agree with Trauma 725.

Getting As in the pre-reqs should at least boost your GPA to 3.0. A lot of people got in with 3.0 and good ICU experiance

Hi. Were the classes you took at university of Memphis graduate level or undergrad?

Hey Gwapo!!

Got mine done by WES; it's really low and am not that bad of a student back home. Anyways let me know how you got WES to redo your transcript. Thx for that info. I am from Michigan and have inquired about my Gpa situation to some univ here and their advice is to take those sciences prereq undergrad and aim for A and get a hiscore on GRE. They basically telling me that they look at the big picture instead of just the GPA. But it's the risk I have to take of being accepted as it is competitive program. They only take 20-25 student out of 300 applicants and there is only 5 universities in Mi that offers Crna program. Keep me posted with ur end. Send me an email! Thx for ur reply!! Will definitely look into WES.

If I recall correctly, Arizona State only requires a 2.7. However, the average admitted student has way more than that. As you have been adviced by previous posters, I would suggest taking advanced hard core science classes to show you can handle the load. With 10 years experience (hopefully in a high acuity teaching hospital), you would be able to offset your GPA issue. As far as the GRE, take a prep class.

Another option is for you to get a masters in another field in hopes that it would boost your GPA. It's a long shot, but not unrealistic. Good luck
