Break before school

Does anyone plan on taking a break from nursing before they start school? Or did you take a break before starting school? Just want to get some opinions on taking a hiatus from nursing before starting a rigorous program.

I plan on doing travel nursing in order to make as much $ as I currently do while only working three 12 hour shifts/week, which is a vacation to me. In order to be where I wanna be financially and to minimize debt while in school, i'll most likely end up quitting work 2 weeks prior to school with a couple of vacations in between now and then.

If you're financially where you want to be already and have the support system to do so, then by all means take time off if you want to!

I haven't been accept anywhere yet but if I do, I plan on working my tail off until about 1-2 weeks before. I want to save as much money as possible. I have become a coupon queen and stock piled shelf product to last a year so far. I have a part time (24hours) and a per diem. I will be keeping the per diem its one 12hr shift every other weekend for pocket change. 1-2 weeks before I start I will be cleaning and spending time with family, if I can afford a weekend away that will be great too.

I plan on doing the same thing. Was quoted at more than $2,000 a week take home with traveling and I'm going for it. Pay off some credit card bills and student loans I have before I start. Take off the month of July too before my August start date!

The reason I asked if anyone has taken a break is bc I would like to also do travel nursing to save money for school. I have two specialties cvicu and nicu. After doing some research I've learned that nicu pays a lot more. But I'm not sure if I should leave the adult ICU world before school starts...

Some people get accepted to school with less than a year of experience, since they'd have 1 year of experience by the time you've started. If you fall into this category, and I'm not sure if you do (sorry didn't read all the responses), then I'd advise against it. But if not, do something different / enjoyable / more lucrative. School is a drag. It's expensive. There are going to be trips you won't be able to take, parties you'll miss, and weekends spent studying. Enjoy yourself now, because the next couple years are going to be tough.

I was thinking that also. i'll have 2 years in CVICU in February. I could definitely use the extra money for school. So it's something to think about.
