I have applied to SLU's psych NP program for spring 2013. Is anyone applying or attending this online university? Looking to connect with others who are either planning to attend or have experience with the school. Any NP fields please reply. Thank you!

I'm not sure what my GPA actually calculated out at. I had a lousy 2.5 GPA 100 years ago in college. Went to nursing school 15 yrs later and graduated with a 4.0. JUST finished my BSN and not sure but I think it's 3.89 or something like that. Experience? I have no real psych experience, but I do work in a jail with lots of psych patients. Make sure you get strong letters of recommendation and write a passionate personal essay about why you want this. I do know they select...in other words not everyone gets in, but I get the impression it is much more than GPA.

Have you worked as a nurse yet? I think you will need that for sure. Good luck. I start in just a few weeks and I'm super nervous but excited. Good luck and feel free to PM me.

Just a quick update. The first semester of my ACNP program at SLU is over! If anyone has any specific questions I will try to answer them.

How many years is the part-time option?

The full-time plan is 2 years and the part-time plan 3 years.

You have up to 5 years to finish though.

would love to hear updates from those of you who have started! I am looking into applying to the psych np program for the Spring 14 start. Any feedback would be appreciated good or bad. I am a psych nurse with 1 year experience and would be taking the ONLINE courses, probably full time.

I started at Brandman University this past January, I was not accepted to the SLU program... I would also like to hear how its going to compare my experiences thus far...which, incidentally have been positive.

I deferred my start so I don't have any info to share. I hope others will respond. SLU has a great reputation but it is very expensive.

I am in my second semester of SLU's ACNP program (part-time). I can' tell you anything specifically about the psych program but can say that the ACNP program is a lot of work! The classes seem to be broken up so that you are not carrying two very heavy classes at the same time which helps a lot. If you are planning on attending full time then I can only suggest that you work per diem or part-time as I cannot imagine working full-time (I do) and going to school full-time as well. So far I have no complaints and the experience is very good. The staff have all been professional and responsive to any needs/questions/etc. They are expensive but it seems to be worth it so far!

Thanks for responding! You do or do not work full time? How many classes do you take at once?
