Can someone please tell me how to go about finding a preceptor other than the usual "Googling" then calling around??? I've done that, asked around, and no one is able to help me! I'm worried that I may not find anything by the time classes start in 2 weeks! I've also tried going with my local NP organization, but to no avail...... I'm open for any and all suggestions!!! Thanks!!

hey

i feel your pain. i am having the same problem. never did i anticipate it would be this ridiculous! wouldn't be so bad if i didn't move and relocate to an area where i know noone basically. it would be nice if te schools gave some type of incentive like a free class to the NP who precepts you.

i mean they are giving their time and knowledge for free! understandable if they don't want to b/c they are not getting anything out of it. but i will def pay it forward b/c i think this is the most frustating thing to have to do in these programs...beg for someone to help you learn and devolop your skills....everyone was here at some point. i guess just remember when you do finish and start practicing....i know i will !

Your University really doesn't make this happen? Mine placed us every semester. Now it might be late and hardly painless, but the school (that I paid a fortune to work on my behalf) arranged my preceptors. Some ho-humm, some awesome. If your school does nothing for your education - umm - silly question - why give them your hard earned dollars?

Where are you located?

That's exactly how I feel. Why pay all that tuition if you are basically responsible for finding and arranging your own clinical experinces. That's why I did not do an online program!! I believe even some online programs provide some type of guidance in clinical placement.......Had I known I was going to have to do all this, I would have gone to another school!!!

Although it's true that preceptors do not get paid for their service, NPs can earn continuing ed credits for precepting students.

Where are you going to school? I'm going to FAU in south FL & I'm afraid I'm gonna have the same problem!

1. google..

2. called down the phone book for all MD listed...

3. try hospital education departments

4. ask anyone and everyone you know...

If there is a local NP society/group, find someone there and ask about preceptors...also ask if any members are alums of your school.

Get in touch with the local Med society (they may have a directory online) and look for alums of your school.

Did you do your undergrad somewhere else? You could contact your school's alumni association and see if any alums are practicing NPs in your area?
