  1. hey reggae muffin, i was wondering how you like the post-msn program at md. i am completing my ANP in may and was thinking of applying there. did you also complete a post-msn the same way? and about how long will it take? how many hours are required a semester? i don't have enough posts to private message. if you don't mind, it would be extremely helpful. thanks
  2. thanks BCgradnurse for your suggestions in my ANP program they incorporate that as well, so i am required to complete time in women's health this upcoming fall. and the practice i am in now, i have done several pap's, pelvic exam, rectal exams. my current preceptor is great !
  3. Hi everyone, In my last semester (next spring)...=) I will be allowed to go to other sites aside from primary care. I have 240 hours to complete next spring, and I will have the minimum 500 hours to sit for my NP certification, hopefully this upcoming Fall of 2012. So my question is what other clinical sites will best prepare me for what I will be exposed to in a general Internal Medicine or Primary care practice (aside from primary care & internal medicine) ? I would like to make the most of my clinical time to expose me to other areas that I might either benefit from from as a general practitioner. My main interest is Cardiology and I would like to spend at least 40 hours there. I was thinking possibly Derm and Ortho as my 2 other sites, along with my primary care site for my last semester. Any other comments from practicing ANP/FNP or Student NP's? Any practice or specialty you would have liked to have been exposed to before graduating or that you think might have helped you in your current practice? Thanks in advance!
  4. I was able to take all my research and advanced practice theory classes already my first year and a half, so all my major paper writing is out of the way. I did not want to take any of those classes with the clinical core classes. Thanks for the reply
  5. Hi all, So here is my question.... Do you think it is advisable to work every weekend while in NP school? My clinicals start this Fall, and 120 hours are required in the 15 week semester. I am wondering if I will be able to not work every weekend right now, as clinical time increases I know I will have no choice. Am I being selfish for not wanting to give up my weekends, I know that it is only short term, and I should just suck it up...huh. I currently work 12 hour shifts ICU rotating, commute is 45 min which is a pain, and another side of the problem, after commuting and coming home from work all day or night, I have no motivation for school or studying. I do fine on my off days. Was wondering if I was off all week (well at least 4 days straight) it probably would help me to get in more study time. Also thinking of applying for position to the community hospital which is about 5 min away from my house but don't think I want to go through with orientation and training right now with school starting up. What to do...I know it is ultimately my decision to make. Just curious if other students or NP's have been in this situation and what they have done or plan on doing. Thanks
  6. still looking....no leads yet....and it seems that noone can help me! what to do? i know i am asking a lot of someone but please people think it over.
  7. hey i feel your pain. i am having the same problem. never did i anticipate it would be this ridiculous! wouldn't be so bad if i didn't move and relocate to an area where i know noone basically. it would be nice if te schools gave some type of incentive like a free class to the NP who precepts you. i mean they are giving their time and knowledge for free! understandable if they don't want to b/c they are not getting anything out of it. but i will def pay it forward b/c i think this is the most frustating thing to have to do in these programs...beg for someone to help you learn and devolop your skills....everyone was here at some point. i guess just remember when you do finish and start practicing....i know i will !
  8. well that is a good question, but i don't have a real answer for you but this is what i would do. why not try to get a part-time or per-diem job in whatever specialty you think would help you when you graduate as a NP. if you graduated in 2010 with your BSN you can't be finished with grad school already? so why not try to get something going this summer if you have a break from school. i already know i want to be a cardio NP, so most of my experience therefore is in cardiology. vice veraa....good luck!
  9. i plan to continue to work this upcoming fall semester f/t. i think it can be done, you will just have to sacrifice some things....social life. but the reward will be worth it...i hope at least
  10. Hi, I am a first year ANP studet in need of a clinical site/preceptor for this upcoming Fall 2011 Semester. Requirements are 120 hours, which is about 1 day a week in a primary care/internal medicine office setting. If anyone is in the Baltimore/Washington/Annapolis area and is interested please post a reply and I will send contact info or PM me. Or if you know someone who would be interested that would be great too! Thanks
