Student Loans

Anybody have advice on which company to go through for private student loans?

I am applying for the Tuition Answer Loan with Sallie Mae. You can get up to 30,000 dollars to use for anything school related. This can even include buying a computer or child care it says. You can check it out on their website. Hope it helps!

Did you need a co-signer? Is there any other companies that don't require co-signers?

your school will provide you with a list of lenders when you get your financial aide package. but check out bankone.com for student loans.

bankone.com....using money from them now...application process is very easy...there is a processing fee which is a negative but they don't care what other assistance you are getting which some companys do

For those who borrowed from Sallie Mae and/or Bank One:

Is a co-signer required? I don't think anyone in my family makes enough $ to co-sign for a loan that large.

www.teri.org i have borrowed from this company with my retired grandfather as my cosigner and had no problem getting a loan. it was fast and extremely easy i now have 2 loans through them.

Anyone know if you already have loans from your BSN degree how getting MSN aid works. I'm thinking it won't affect me getting loans, but I'm not sure. I'm considering a contract with an anesthesia group in my area which would pay tuition. Did any of you do a contract, but still take out loans to supplement income for your family- car payment, child care, etc.? We are trying to get everything paid down now anticipating my not working when I start anesthesia school, but losing half our income will be rough whether we have lots of bills or not. I'm thinking of it as a short term sacrifice though. :)

TennRN2004,

Your previous loans should not affect your ability to borrow for graduate school. I also have loans outstanding from my BSN, but I was still able to defer the payments and get the full $18,500/year of graduate aid.

I also was able to get money from BankOne with my wife as co-signer.

It is rough losing that income, but it is a sacrifice that will be well worth it both financially and professionally.

I refused to let my family suffer too much so I have borrowed enough so that our standard of living has not dropped too far. I can still sign my kids up for T-Ball, skating, or whatever. We still enjoy eating out on my Fridays (I always take them off from school unless I am on call) and we even took the kids to Disney for my 5 day Christmas break! It's those things that make it bearable!

You are on the right track by having things paid off before you start. We started out school with no credit card debt, one car paid off and I traded the other in on a cheap new car to get me through school. I refinanced my mortgage and saved a bunch of $$/month and I found cheaper auto insurance. Anything you can do to save a little $$$ helps. Yes, you will still need to borrow a lot of money (especially if you have a family) but you will have a lot less financial stress while in school.

I agree that the teri graduate loan is great, I have two friends who suggested it to me. My one suggestion is if you are still working, apply for it before school and you won't need a cosigner, if applying after school has started you will need one. I'm in the process of applying now with my brother as a cosigner (hope he'll work because he works for a small company and doesn't make much but has been there forever). What's great about this loan is you can choose the credit worthy option which was 4.20% plus the libor index ( 1.51%), there's no origination loan, don't have to pay until six months after school is over, and it's incredibly easy to apply, I think the app is one page long. The web site is http://www.collegeloancorp.com under the teri graduate loan section. When I was looking into bankone I found there process a little more lengthy, everything was over the phone, and my friends loans seemed to take a long time to come in. Hope this helps!!

I have two friends that just graduated, they had 40000 in undergrad loans coming into the program and had no problem at all getting more loans. Bottom line is this: in grad school you can get as much as you need so don't let money even worry you.

I applied for a private loan before I started school when I was still employed. I had no problem getting the loan approved myself. If I need more money later, I will prob have to find a co-signer.
