Stuck between a rock and a hard place: please advise

Hello guys,

I'm in a difficult situation right now and don't know what to do about it. I'm hoping to find some answers or opinions that would help me to decide.

I just moved to NYC, and my license is being endorsed from GA. I didn't want to apply for any jobs until I had the license in my hands, but recruiters found me online, and I've been receiving a lot of calls from them. I'm a bilingual hospice nurse with experience, and I was looking for something in my field.

One of them actually scheduled an interview with one of the hospitals that I am interested in working with, and everything was great, a nice offer, good benefits, good reputation, and they even told me that they would wait for the license and my decision. That interview was this past Monday and today, Thursday, the recruiter called me saying that I have to make a decision in the next 3-4 days. If I say yes, they will wait for my license and keep the offer open for me, but if I say no, my chances to work at that hospital will be gone.

I don't understand why they are now telling me that. The interview was great, and they understood that I needed more offers from other hospitals to make that decision.

What should I do? Say no and lose my chances to work with them? Or say yes to the only offer that I have so far?

Today, for the first time I have applied in other hospitals who offer hospice services hoping on having some interviews in the next few days, but I don't think it's going to happen that fast.

Any suggestions? Any opinions about working at Calvary, Continuum, Visiting Nurses of NY or Metropolitan Jewish?

Thanks a lot for your help!

hello Oliver,

I am not from NY but i read your post and I would just take the job if I were you. You already there, right?? You haven't looked else where or heard from anyone else and need to work so I would take it.

If that doesn't work out you can look else where...

Hey,

I am a RN looking for a job in NYC and by my experience I can tell you take the job. It is very hard to get a job in NYC now. I just got hired by Calvary hospital and got a tour of their facility and I loved it. You can always leave if you don't like it or get something better. I hope that you made a choice by now cause I see your post was in October. I have been going nuts and right after I got my job at Calvary, SVMC called me to find out if I was still interested. But i'm not gonna tell Calvary to wait even though I always wanted a job @ SVMC, because you never know what can happen @ an interview and I can't begin to tell you how many unemployed nurses I meet at interviews and open houses.

Good Luck

Is there a freeze in the hospitals in NYC?

Yes some hospitals are in a freeze and have told me that they are not taking any new hires now. Places like the HHC's, Methodist and maimonides in brooklyn. Some of my friends are also having a hard time getting into manhattan hospitals due to financial problems the hospitals are having. So I tell people that they shouldn't be too picky in this economic mess.
