  1. Midwifetobe85,I received another letter today stating that they sent me the wrong alternate letter. When I read the first letter it said that I would get a seat if a student in the CRNA program declined. Today the revised letter said that it was suppose to say Nurse Midwife. I am gonna send them a letter to ask if my name was even placed on the appropriate list? I hope I get a seat and get those books and start reading.
  2. Chana160,Where you placed on the waiting list or did you just get interviewed late? Congrats on getting in and hope to see you guys in the fall.
  3. Sadly, I was put on the alternate list and I'm praying that I at least get a part-time offer by the end of the summer. If I don't get in this year I'll just reapply next year. I plan on getting a MSN from WGU and getting certified in neonatal monitoring and become a lactation consultant. good luck to you midwifetobe85!
  4. I interviewed last week and It went pretty well. Congrats on being accepted midwifetobe85! I was trying to find the curriculum plan for part-time and could not find it. The school is a really good fit for me and my interview reinforced it. I hope to get a big yellow envelope too. They told me that they weigh GPA, experience, interview performance, the writing exersice, certifications and priority is given to people that graduated from a previous SUNY institution. Congrats again midwifetobe85! Hope to see you in the fall and remember, part-time is better than no-time.
  5. Midwifetobe85 did you here their decision yet? I had my interview and it went pretty well, but I'm feeling so anxious and scared now. Waiting for a decision is one of the hardest things I have ever done!
  6. Thanks midwifetobe85! How long did it take for you to hear back from Downstate about an interview after you submitted your application? I'm sending you a lot of luck and hopefully we will be classmates! Was the interview with one person or a panel? Thanks...
  7. Hello, I have applied to SUNY Downstate's Fall 2012 CNM program and would like to get an idea of my chances. I would also like to connect with other applicants. I have a BSN, 3.5 GPA overall, and 5 years experience as a nurse. I would like to know how long it takes to hear from the school and would love for other students to share their experience applying or attending Downstate. Thanks
  8. I would love to know the actual salary for a CNM living in NYC. I found various salary sites quoting it at around 85,000 and I find it to be quite low. A a staff RN with 5 years experience I make 89,000 with barely any overtime in NYC.
  9. i'm so sorry hun. keep your head up. have you looked into possibly going to graduate school or working in onther city close to home so you can see your son. i hope everything gets well soon for you. p.s. prayer always helps me in difficult times...
  10. Chamberlain college of Nursing is an excellent school. The semesters are broken into two terms of 8 weeks. I am taking 2 nursing classes this term, then next 8 weeks I will take 3 nursing classes. After that, I will have to take a capstone nursing class and one elective and I will be done. I started in October 2009 and will be done in February 2010. Note that if you choose to do Chamberlain it is very expensive as 2 classes were like $4000. Make sure you take classes like statistics, english 1 & 2, and a high level sociology at a cheap school so you can save a lot of money. The work is hard but reasonable. You automaticaly get 80 credits for you RN license and yes the school is accredited.
  11. I was offered 79k almost 80k but keep in mind that I am a new grad evening shift. But if you have certification and experience you can easily be making 85k. I know that hospice is depressing but Calvary is not all hospice, they also do palliative care for some patients.
  12. Yes some hospitals are in a freeze and have told me that they are not taking any new hires now. Places like the HHC's, Methodist and maimonides in brooklyn. Some of my friends are also having a hard time getting into manhattan hospitals due to financial problems the hospitals are having. So I tell people that they shouldn't be too picky in this economic mess.
  13. NYC Average 34.65/Hr Days 39.34/Hr Eve/Nights *plus 1200 BSN differential
  14. After looking for a JOB for almost two months now I finally got a job offer from Calvary hospital. I am so excited and can't wait to start working there. I have to tell you that getting a job in NYC is very difficult. I went to countless ineterviews where the manager was interviewing a minimum of 5 people to open houses a hospitals with horrible reputations that had a minimum of 150 people attending trying to get a job. I wish everyone luck on their search. Call HR everyday if you have to and keep faxing in your RESUME every week. P.S. a lot of hospitals are on a hiring freezeeeeeeeeeee.
  15. Hey, I am a RN looking for a job in NYC and by my experience I can tell you take the job. It is very hard to get a job in NYC now. I just got hired by Calvary hospital and got a tour of their facility and I loved it. You can always leave if you don't like it or get something better. I hope that you made a choice by now cause I see your post was in October. I have been going nuts and right after I got my job at Calvary, SVMC called me to find out if I was still interested. But i'm not gonna tell Calvary to wait even though I always wanted a job @ SVMC, because you never know what can happen @ an interview and I can't begin to tell you how many unemployed nurses I meet at interviews and open houses. Good Luck
