Hi everyone!
I am foreign educated nurse from Belarus. In order to get permission for NCLEX-RN exam--I had to pass TOEFL-ibt with total score 83 and sreaking part score--26.
I took TOEFL iBT 6 times and always my speaking score was 24,even though my total score is 92 (when 26 is required for -ONLY- for OK) For some reason--Toefl people believe that my speaking is 24--period...
One year later,I decided to get an approval for NCLEX exam from a different state. I pass the NCLEX-RN exam with 75 questions!
Now, I still can not work in Oklahoma because of my speaking score.....
It is just frustrating...
Help!!!!!!
How about to take some other test but TOEFL? Does OK BON will accept anything else?Do you have already CGFNS certificate?because for that they require either of those English tests.
I have a friend she didn't pass Toefl but did CGFNS exam, so she tried other test(I don't remember which one though)..........She has been RN for 2.5 years now and doing just fine.

HI again!
As I mentioned before I have:
CGFNS certificate
TOEFL iBT score --92
I passed NCLEX-RN and got my RN license from North Carolina.
I finished Nursing Refresher Course here( in Oklahoma)
---However--OK board of nursing asking me for speaking score 26--I have 24
Now--I am preparing for IELTS exam-(I didn't know that they administer only British version )
I spoke with Oklahoma Board of nursing yesterday--- my old application has already expired and I still need to get my speaking score. This lady told me that I should apply again to OBN only when I will get the score I need....
They can waive the requirements on my speaking score-- Only ---if I had 1 year of full time hospital experience in a different state.....
Looks like I have to leave my family in OK and move to North Carolina....
Could your score but a reflect of your accent? Perhaps working with a speech therapist might help. Sounds stupid, but it maybe cheaper than moving to North Carolina.
You took a refresher course at the University...Is there someone there who could give honest feedback? Someone in the English as a second language department ?
Just thoughts.
Well-- I have an accent, I spent 25 years of my life in Belarus, but believe me--it is not THAT bad...
I have many friend who are American, and so far I was able to communicate with them pretty well.
I passed my Nursing Refresher Course and I had no trouble with patients underspending me during my hospital rotations.
I also finished English 98,99,100 and 101 levels back in Chicago college and I earned 24 credit hours.
Well--who cares....
They stated their English requirements for foreign nurses very clear--- Right speaking score-- otherwise-- no license...
Hi my friends! I took the IELTS.
My speaking portion of the test was--like I thought--- just prefect....
Pleasant and friendly test administrator asked me many questions. I tried my best to answer it completely and accurately... We had very active and interesting conversation....
Well---I failed it--I got 5.5--its like a slap on my face.... I fell like someone betrayed me... He believes that I am "modest" user of English....
I feel scammed....
