Stressed out student

Published

I have heard and read many, many posts about how hard and stressful nursing school is, and while I get that it is going to be CRAZY hard and stressful can someone please post something encouraging about nursing school.

Does anyone have any positives to share?

Thank you :) I really needed some positives today I have been starting to really freak myself out. I am hoping that it will be the quantity of info that challenges me and not the intellect. I am a straight A student typically, but I have been told to kiss my A's good bye and be happy with C's. The math is really freaking me out, any tips for dosage calculations?[/quote']

May I suggest dosage help.com.....if you subscribe and it is free...they will send you a dosage question per day to answer via your phone or pad and you will be on top of your game with calculating and names of different meds and conversions.

the thing is, it will be hard and stressful but it will be what you make it to be. I stressed out too much in my first semester and then realized that's not how I wanted to spend the next 2 years so I got healthy and reevaluated what I wanted out of my life and the next 2 years were MUCH better

Take time to take care of yourself. The reading will never end, the papers will always be due, but you need to find time to exercise, eat right and get sleep. Do those things and you'll have a much better time overall

Good luck!

Thank you that will be very helpful :)

When you finally receive the grade you were aiming for, you feel da** proud of yourself!

When you're driving home from a rough day of clinical and think to yourself, "how did I get so lucky in finding a profession I really enjoy"

When the patient you've been wiping butt for 5-6x an hour tells you, "thank you, I know you'll be a great nurse" all those sweat and tears (in secret) are worth every drop!

When you sit at bedside holding hands for a patient passing or receiving advice for hospice care, you feel so honored that they're willing to share that moment with you!

Nursing schools hard, but you already know that! But it's so rewarding (:

I spent way too much time on the student boards here on AN the summer before I started (no offense to all you fine people) and was a huge ball of anxiety during the first few weeks. You know what? It's not *that* hard. It won't consume your life unless you let it. And - bonus! - I've met some pretty amazing people who have become very good friends along the way.

Everyone's experience is obviously going to be a bit different but try and go into it relaxed and with your mind wide open. Don't let other people's issues affect your experience before you even begin!

Good luck, you'll (probably) be fine :)

A positive: nursing school is hard but 100% doable, and once you get into the swing of things, time flies. It seems like just yesterday I got my acceptance letter, but I graduated in December. It still hasn't hit me yet! Another positive, I met some of my best friends in my prereq classes and nursing school. Nursing school made my cry a zillion times due to stress, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. It is what you make of it.

You will surprise yourself of what you are capable of accomplishing in nursing school. Never before have I done more on so little sleep and felt that I have made a difference in the life of a person. I'm halfway through a BSN program and I think you get use to the stuggle. I wish you the best of luck and remember to take the time to take care of yourself too.

Every day in clinicals (with a few exceptions, of course!) reminds me that I'm doing just what I want to be doing. Even when I'm on units where I don't wish to work.

I love the knowledge I'm gaining, and putting it into practice, both in clinicals and in my own life.

Nursing school, like most things, is all about your attitude. Yes, it can be overwhelming and stressful and all that, but staying on top of things, planning ahead, studying, etc will all help you keep your head from exploding.

Know that you're capable! You can do it! :)

I just started my second semester. Looking back at what I've accomplished so far and at all that I learned in my first semester makes me prouder of myself than I've ever been. And that feels really, really good.

I'm starting my fourth semester in 5. I can't believe I've come this far! Just a minute ago I was mourning the denial letter I got for my BSN program. I brushed myself off and did what it took to get accepted the next semester! It's been really tough, yet very rewarding! I am reminded a lot in class and clinical, how much I love nursing and why I want to do this. It gets monotonous and annoying at times- but it's all worth it! Time really has flown.

Nursing school is actually enjoyable. Of course not all times are exactly "fun" but I do find myself enjoying clinicals and a lot of time even lectures! I was always a straight A student too. People told me to forget about making A's... But this doesn't have to be true! I have managed to make 11 A's of the 12 nursing courses I have completed (with an 89 in the other ugh). So you can still be a straight A student! It is possible! (I am in a BSN program). The thing about nursing school is that the subject matter itself is not entirely all that difficult. The subject matter is definitely manageable. It is the amount of material you are expected to learn in a given time that it challenging. Nursing school is very time consuming, but the subject matter is not exactly difficult. The upside to this is that with effective time management it is doable. Also, you will make some of the best friends you have ever had in nursing school. You are all going through the same thing at the same time with the same goal. My nursing friends keep me motivated and are always there to help one another out. Dosage calculation just takes practice. It's foreign at first, but with time and practice it will become easier. I recommend the book "calculate with confidence" and googling websites for practice problems.. There are tons of resources out there to help! I love nursing school, and I am fortunate for the friends I have made along the way. Be excited! Be positive and realize that you can do this! Best of luck![/quote']

Thanks for this post..... Nice to read this!!
