Stony Brook 2yr nursing program 2010 applicants

Published

is there anyone who applied to the 2 yr nursing program at Stony Brook?

hey i have a question for the people that are already in the 2 yr program or know about it, i was wondering what kind of job you can have while in the program. Im working full time now but i know that's probably not going to be possible while in the program so i was thinking maybe getting a part time job. it just sucks because i have no idea what the schedule of classes is going to be like

I also got accepted to SB's 2 yr program. I'll be commuting from Nassau county (hewlett) it sucks, dont know if im going to take the 2 hour train ride or risk the drive with the horrendous LI traffic.

Hi pearl26,

they told me to expect 9 to 5 every day (!) And, a possible clinical on a weekend. Not good news for a working person, isn't it?

I was told the same except the lady at student services said 9ish to 6ish Mon thru Fri. I work 12 hr shifts and I'm not going to be able to fulfil full time. I can't image if I had a 8 hr day job. The next two years should be interesting!

Is that for the 2yr program? It sounds like an accelerated schedule.

At the Nursing information sesssion they said that for the 2 yr program most classes are on Mon & Wed (all day) and one or two days of clinics per week. That is was made to be more flexible than the 1yr accelerated. I think they like to give off the impression that it takes all your time because most people can't handle school & work at the same time, plus the material is intensive. Everyone is different though, I wouldn't fret about it until you go to register and see what it's actually like. There are current 2yr students on other posts who said they had a decent amount of 'down' time.

*shrugs*

Good luck!

:-)

does anyone know if there's a group for us class of 2012 students on facebook?

So I sent in that form that asks you to check whether you accept the offer or not and I checked that I did accept. What else do we need to do before the orientation at the end of August, is there any other paperwork that we need to do. Also, do we need the labs for the science prerequisites because I'm currently taking Microbiology at Stony Brook this summer and it doesn't have a lab?

There's an Admissions Checklist, look for it on SOLAR. You'll need to submit a proof of , a copy of BLS card, and an expanded version of the health form. And check with them regarding the micro lab, bc I believe that you do need labs in the science courses, but I may be mistaken.

Hello everyone, I was curious to know how some of you were able to apply to both the 1 and 2 year programs. Is it one application to both programs or do I have to submit two separate applications? If separate, how then do I submit for the other without having to repeat my recommendation letter entries (I understand from your posts that SB uses the same one set of credentials for both applications)? Thanks for all your guidance. Good luck to those of you starting next month!

I know that you can apply for both programs in one application year (I applied only for the 2-year program). If you'll ask SB (School of Nursing)admissions how to approach this, I'm sure they'll be able to help you.
